The Uinkaret volcanic field is an active Pleistocene-Holocene volcanic field situated on the north rim of Grand Canyon. The Vulcan's Throne basalt cinder cone formed in the Pleistocene about 73,000 years ago. In the not so distant past, basalt lava flows from Vulcan's Throne and other volcanic vents in the Uinkaret volcanic field spilled into Grand Canyon damming the Colorado River.
