Kids come in all shapes and sizes, but the way your little one is growing can offer some clues to their health. Your baby’s height and weight will go through rapid change over their first two years, and you may wonder if they’re growing as they should be, and how they might compare to other babies.

To give you a benchmark, more than half of kids fall within the ranges we’re giving. 15 per cent of kids fall above these numbers and 15 per cent of kids below them.

Keep in mind that while our growth chart offers guidelines that apply to more than half of all Canadian children, what matters most is that your child is following a pattern that is right for them. If your child's growth is too fast or too slow, it may point to a problem with health or nutrition (Dietitians of Canada 2023).

At each doctor appointment, they will weigh and measure your child and tell you their height and weight percentiles (Caring for Kids 2021). Talk with your doctor if you have any concerns about your child's growth.

The measurements below come from an adaptation of the World Health Organization's growth chartsOpens a new window for Canada by the Canadian Paediatric Society, Canadian Pediatric Endocrine Group, College of Family Physicians of Canada, Community Health Nurses of Canada and Dietitians of Canada.
