Gone, but not frogotten: Frog is immortalised in Japanese pavement after getting stuck in wet concrete
- Bizarre pictures were posted on Twitter alongside the caption: 'Eh?'
- More than 60,000 people have weighed in with theories on how it happened
- It is not known whether the frog was killed or leapt to safety
- Many posted RIP messages for the amphibian after seeing the images
The images were posted alongside the caption 'Eh?'
Did it survive or did it croak? That is the question splitting Twitter users after bizarre images of a frog's concrete imprint in Japan was posted online.
Three pictures were put on the social network by user @masssssann, who simply captioned it 'Eh?'
More than 60,000 people have since weighed in, trying to work out how the frog managed to make the perfectly-shaped mark in the wet concrete.
A large number of RIP messages were put on Twitter by those who believe the amphibian met its end in the concrete tomb.
But others believe the story may have had a happier outcome, with the mark caused by the toad leaping to safety.
One Twitter user believes the frog either jumped into the concrete after it was laid, or - more likely, he believes - was on the floor before the concrete was poured, either leaping to safety or to its death.
This would, he said, explain the clear lines and details of the imprint.
But those who believe the frog perished point to the lack of footprints around the distinctive hole.
Another theory abounds that the toad could have been dropped on the concrete by a bird, in order to kill it, and it was subsequently picked up and eaten.
