Pneumatic retinopexy (PR) is used to repair retinal detachments ideally in phakic patients who have a single break or multiple smaller breaks in the superior 8 clock hours of the fundus. The single-procedure success rate of PR is highly variable and has been reported to range between 43.7% and 95.5%, with a mean of 74.4% across all studies.
A spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak occurs when the CSF egresses from the subarachnoid space of teh anterior or middle cranial fossa into the surrounding sinonasal or middle ear cavities through a dehiscence of the lamia dorsa.
The National Academy of Medicine addresses healthcare safety and quality in the United States: Timely care: avoid harmful delays, Efficient care: prevent waste of equipment, supplies, ideas, and energy, and Clinic workflow affects both timeliness and efficiency.Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality on workflow2: Steps taken to complete job responsibilities in work setting can be physical and mental tasks, and can occur sequentially or simultaneously. Ophthalmology relies on smooth clinic flow and efficiency. COVID-19: Increased telemedicine, online patient messages, and staff work hours to accommodate urgent care and patientbacklogs. Crucial: Streamline workflow efficiency in this fast-paced field.
Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults, ages 20-74. The tele-ophthalmology program was launch at UCD Health in 2018 and was expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic to improveearly screening for diabetic retinopathy. Assess diabetic retinopathy screening utilization during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study evaluates follow-up encounters and outcomes.

The most common cause of spinal cord dysfunction is degenerative cervical myelopathy. It manifests as spinal cord compression and neurological impairment. Since the spinal cord is complex and works with many organs, it is challenging to measure spinal cord function in patients with DCM. mJOA is widely used to assess DCM but is problematic due to comorbidities and interobserver bias.
Osteoporosis is a major public health issue, with more than 53 million people in the United States either having osteoporosis or at increased risk for developing osteoporosis. Osteoporosis places patients at risk for fragility fractures which are associated with a decreased health-related quality of life and substantial financial burden on the healthcare system. Previous studies discovered a low rate of osteoporosis evaluation and treatment in adult patients after a hip fragility fracture though these studies need to be updated to determine if improvements have occurred over the last decade. Thus, the primary aim of this study was to evaluate rates of osteoporosis evaluation and treatment in adult patients following low-energy hip fractures.
A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an injury to the head that disrupts the function of the brain. Visual dysfunction occurs in over 70% of patients following a TBI. The commonly reported symptoms include photophobia, blurred vision, and visual field defect. Very limited evidence of vision-related rehabilitation is available. OrCam Read is a handheld artificial vision device comprised of a “smart” camera that reads texts from both printed surfaces and digital screens. It uses a laser to indicate reading and a camera captures an image and converts the text into audio, which is transmitted through the device’s speaker or Bluetooth devices.
OCTA is a non-invasive technique that can image blood flow in the retina and choroid in 3 dimensions. Commercially, the instrument automatically segments the vasculature into 2 separate layers, but histologically, there are 3 different layers of blood vessels. My summer project was focused on determining the reliability and repeatability of the vascular flow density in the intermediate capillary plexus (ICP) layer using OCTA in normal eyes and eyes with cystoid macular edema (CME) and retinal vasculopathy.
