Of all the incredible doughnuts out there, the ones from Dunkin' Donuts may not rank among our favorites. (With gourmet doughnuts from spots like Brooklyn's Dough and homemade beauties like these old fashioned sour cream doughnuts or these Nutella-filled sugar doughnuts, it's just hard to compete.) Dunkin' Donuts will always hold a special place in our hearts, however, for nostalgia's sake, for Boston pride (if you're from Massachusetts, in which case you call it "Dunkies") and for those times when you don't want something fancy or surprising, but something totally predictable and maybe even mediocre.
We're not saying all doughnuts from Dunkin' are mediocre (but come on, they kind of are). Some are definitely amazing, some suck, but the real truth about Dunkin's donuts is that they bring us back. Back to a time when bringing a box of doughnuts or Munchkins® into class for your birthday made you the coolest kid in school, to a time when the most thinking you did on a road trip was deciding which doughnut to choose, and maybe to last Monday morning when one of your colleagues showed up with doughnuts just because. Dunkin' Donuts gives us a special feeling, beside the self-loathing we feel after eating one too many. They may not be the best, but they're in a league of their own.
Of course, not all Dunkin' doughnuts give us that warm and fuzzy feeling. Some actually make us kind of sick to our stomachs. In the grand canon of doughnuts from "Dunkies," not all flavors are created equal. Here the best and worst Dunkin' Donuts doughnuts ranked from worst to best, in a totally subjective, non-scientific order.
