Famous National Grange Members

List of Famous National Grange Members ranked by fame and popularity. The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry is an organization that encourages communities to work together to promote the success of the community and agriculture. The Grange was founded in 1867 at the request of Andrew Johnson who wanted to improve agriculture conditions. Over the years the National Grange have had famous members, some of whom may surprise you.

Who is the most famous member of the National Grange? Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt tops our list. Roosevelt became a member of the Grange in 1914. He described his membership stating, “For many years I have been a member of the Grange. I have felt at home in it because it embodies the fine flavor of rural living which I myself have known and loved.”

It may be surprising to some that Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic is an active member of the National Grange. Novoselic is the Worthy Master of the Grays River Grange. Novoselic spoke about his feelings toward the Grange with Seattle Weekly saying, “I enjoy participation in this organization because it keeps me connected in my community. If you have the time, imagination and most importantly, energy, there are many possibilities.”
