2025 WCVB Internship Program
The WCVB Summer Internship Program offers a variety of opportunities for students entering or currently in their junior or senior years at an accredited community college, college, or university. The program runs for 10–12 weeks, requiring a commitment of 24 hours per week, with flexible scheduling depending on the department.
Application Requirements:
- A Letter of Recommendation from a professor specifically for the WCVB Internship Program.
- Resume and Cover Letter in PDF format (do not submit a Word doc).
- Creative Works/Writing Samples, relevant to your areas of interest.
- Intern applications are limited to one submission based on area of interest.

News
WCVB provides Boston with breaking news 24-hours a day to local audiences through our television newscasts and digital platforms. You will learn how a newsroom operates and be expected to contribute to the operation.
Assignment Desk
- Assist team members with content gathering and planning.
- Gather and organize press releases, emails, phone calls, social media and viewer tips.
- Develop and pitch story ideas.
TV News Production
- Writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
- Shadow reporters or anchors in the field when available.
Digital News Production
- Conduct research and write content for WCVB digital platforms including the WCVB app, WCVB.com and various social media platforms.
- Assist with photo and video production.
Weather
StormTeam 5 provides vital weather forecasts for our region through analysis of data, models, radar and on-the-ground reports. You will learn to help produce content for our meteorologists to present on television and online.
- Analyze weather charts and models.
- Prepare daily forecasts.
- Produce weather graphics.
- Assist meteorologists in gathering critical and breaking weather information and data.
- Relay important information to/from News, Assignment Desk, and Web.
- Research statistical data.
Chronicle
Chronicle is the LONGESTrunning, locally produced news magazine program in the country! Chronicle presents a mix of features on the people, places and stories of New England.
- Conduct research, including researching footage from old shows and news tapes, as well as via the Internet and phone calls.
- Update repeat shows for re-air.
- Archive nightly shows.
- Assist producers with logging video footage from shoots.
CityLine
"CityLine" is Channel 5's award-winning urban news and feature magazine program. The program focuses on the issues, concerns, and news affecting the Commonwealth's communities of color.
- Researching story ideas for the weekly show.
- Pre-screening and booking guests, which may involve pre-interview phone calls or communications with managers.
- Assisting with field productions.
- Writing program promotions and in-studio interview questions.
- Accommodating guests on Thursday morning tape days.
- Writing web summaries for upcoming shows.
Creative Services
Creative Services creates all WCVB branding and promotional development of the station. You will learn the fundamental values of writing and producing effective promotions for NewsCenter 5 and Chronicle.
- Write effective news topical promotions for NewsCenter 5 and for Chronicle.
- Assist with promotional and commercial shoots, both in-house and on location.
- Be involved in WCVB’s commitment to the community through PSA production.
Sales & Marketing
Sales Marketing is responsible for all WCVB networking and client communications. You will learn how the sales department comes up with creative concepts for advertisers and sponsors, while building client relationships.
- Developing sales promotional materials, managing client mailings, fulfilling contests, and assisting with on-air production.
- Monitoring and assisting in the research of target accounts to better understand market needs and opportunities.
- Assisting in the production of sales promotion videos, contributing to the visual and strategic aspects of marketing campaigns.
Broadcast Technical Operations
The Engineering Department is responsible for all equipment under the observation of tech staff members. You will be exposed to real world, daily technical operations/challenges in a television station. This program will be designated for students to gain additional training in specialized engineering fields. This program provides extensive training in equipment.
