With over 90% of Newfoundland and Labrador’s electricity coming from renewable sources, your switch supports a greener future for the province. Homeownership and utility requirements You must be the homeowner with an active electricity account. If you own an eligible rental property, you can receive incentives through the general stream to transition up to 2 rental properties to electric heating. Homes must be on a permanent foundation, intended as a primary residence, used year-round, and connected to the island or Labrador’s interconnected electricity grid. Eligible technologies Heat Pumps: Mini-splits, multi-splits, and central heat pumps listed on Natural Resources Canada’s database. Electric Furnaces and Boilers: For primary space heating. Documentation needed Quote from a participating installer with itemized costs. A statement or copy of oil receipts showing at least 500 litres of oil usage for a consecutive 12-month period within 2 years or your application; or, if you are on propane, a statement or copy of propane receipts showing at least 1,000 litres of propane usage for a consecutive 12-month period within 2 years or your application.
