about
I had a gorgeous, antique piano donated to the studio when I arrived to this new location in Waxahachie, TX. On the first night after it was tuned, I sat down and this song came pouring out of me. I hope it moves you and that you'll help spread the word when you get the chance. Thanks so much for a bit of your time and your ears... I really appreciate it, and cheers to supporting independent art!
my eyes couldn't stand to have to make one more decision
between that winding road and the sunset over The Pacific
so on that blanket that she gave me so i wouldn't forget her
i gazed at beauty and just laughed at how i'd never
i finally played that stage i chased there in Chicago
the one i thought might change her heart, man what did i know
i shared some songs and smiles with friends in Colorado
we all laughed and sang and asked, "where did time go?"
and they let me sing one more love song
about that girl i no longer know
and share my quenchless thirst for beauty
i knew they all could see right through me, so i thought:
"i guess i'll start with the sweetest melody in my heart
and pray this simple song convinced you
that i am worth listening to"
she's probably not the girl for me
but her memory always makes me sing
those were the coldest months recording in Minnesota
you'd be surprised how warm fifteen below feels when people love ya
i spent ten years just trying to get close to all the action
turns out the deepest beauty to those folks is just distraction
i finally broke that spell that somehow i fell under
where i would lose myself in the arms of almost lovers
those were the longest nights alone crossing the desert
at least my heart was finally free to not forget her
and i wound up singing one more love song
about that girl i no longer know
and shared my quenchless thirst for beauty
i knew they all could see right through me, so i thought:
"i guess i'll start with the sweetest melody in my heart
and pray this simple song convinced you
that i am worth listening to"
i know she's not the girl for me
but her memory always makes...
she's probably nothing like the girl my memory tortures me with
it's just that every story that i love involves love that just won't quit
and the closest thing i've got to that is this
truth is i've had too much to drink to try and drive home
and i never could refuse a dusty old piano
there's not an ear around to listen, well that's alright
cause there's so much beauty in a sad song sung in starlight
so here is one more love song
about that girl i no longer know
here's my quenchless thirst for beauty
i know you all can see right through me, so i guess
i'll just start with the sweetest melody in my heart
and pray this simple song convinced you
that i am worth listening to
i know she's not the girl for me
but her memory always makes me sing
