Gorgeous visuals, adorkable characters and wonderful premise.
The only reason I haven't given it a higher rating is because it fails to be completely relaxing as there is a tiny bit of melodrama, mostly from the main character who worries a lot. Having low self-confidence is fine and watching her overcome that obstacle was wholesome after the fact, but it drags a little and made the show a little less relaxing than I would've preferred. Maybe I will change my mind in the future on this. If you don't mind a little melodrama and want to see Futaba overcome her fears, then this is for you.

Kohinata Hikari is an overwhelmingly cheerful and outgoing 15-year-old girl who has spent all her life in a small and beautiful seaside town on the Izu peninsula. On the first day of high school, she meets Ooki Futaba, a slightly introverted girl who has just moved from Tokyo. Before she knows it, Futaba gets dragged along into Hikari's passion for scuba diving. And from there, Futaba gradually starts to come out of her shell, and learns how to take challenges and dive into the ocean of life.

How Futaba, a shy, introverted Tokyo girl is transformed by making friends with an extroverted village girl, Hikari.
Though the show is about the slow transformation of Futaba, its Hikari that steals your heart. Her spirit, and true love and care for Futaba was so incredibly heart warming.
There is no romance in this show. The plot is mostly about diving, something that we see extensively in documentaries, but seeing it as an anime where such a frail cowardly girl is able to do it so well made me feel that I too can do it.
And in the final episode Futaba's best friends from Tokyo come for a visit, they are just ordinary girls, and we get to see the drastic difference between them and Hikari, and why Hikari was able to bring out all of Futaba's inner strength.
This is a slice of life show, so it may not be everyone's cup of tea. The story is also not perfect, hence the low ratings.

If you think: "an anime about diving? Not interested at all!" An drop before even starting to Watch, you'll do the same mistake than I.
I eventually watched it because my 'to Watch list' was emty and I launched an anime on random mode. It was Amanchu and I ended binge watching it!

One of the better iyashi-kei out there, with a really solid sort of... growing-into-one's-self sort of theme. Although it may be sacrilegious to say it, I think this show is as good as Aria, only with its own particular modern flair. Aside from the animation and an occasional slip on art quality, the production values here are excellent. The ambiance is absolutely delicious, as is the character art (though I could do without the ragdoll expressions). For iyashi-kei fans, as well as heartwarming slice of life fans, I'd say that this show is must see. It's one of those ultimate sort of pick-me-up shows for someone who's floundering or looking for simple yet heartfelt inspiration.

With the really beautiful settings, nicely drawn characters and the soothing music this anime has a very relaxing atmosphere which I enjoyed quite a lot.
If you don't need real action and just enjoy a kind of simple story about friendship this might be for you!

This is one of those series where friendship and ocean love slowly unfolds to you. Its very fun to watch. Character developments are subtle and the overall experience can be very soothing.
