I was put off by this person's recommendation.
They suggest this is a completely random type anime; the kind where the premise starts ridiculous and everything after is also ridiculous.
"blessed by god of soccer". Aoyama is just naturally skilled, and the scenes of that "god" happen at the end and are a delusion/joke/metaphor.
There isn't an over arching plot, and a lot of comedy happens but it all still follows a continuity.
Not so much that you can't watch out of order but the characters some times say things referencing details mentioned in previous episodes.
The first 5-10 minutes will give you a good idea as to whether or not this anime is for you.
If you like it by then and you're not expecting the series to follow a sports tournament or be all about "playing" the sport, to be the core focus, then you will like the rest of the series as well.

The pretty horrible rating of 4 is because it doesn't have a focused story and the whole aoyama cleanliness thing (the supposed point of this anime) is pretty misleading. If they had just put some random name and said frankly said that this was a pointless slice-of-life anime, it would have had a far higher score.
As a nichijou, this anime is good. Aoyama is just 20% of the story. The rest explores each of his other team mates in each episode. They have also added 2 love stories into the mix which I enjoyed very much.
And the whole thing ended in a clean way.

One of those animes, where you hear everyone's comments/thoughts, but not main character Aoyama. It focuses mainly on comedy part and has some football action in, besides that every episode is totally random and story doesn't progress. Aoyama is clean freak and football genius (blessed by god of soccer - the only fantasy element lol), connecting those two things leads to a lot of funny moments, but overall this is rather decent watch, which starts better and slowns down at the end.
