Oblivious yet brilliant. That's the best way to describe this series and the main character. This was steeped in angst and teenage drama, but still wasn't terrible.
First few episodes were a little off-putting, but it definitely recovered. This was probably the intent.
I hope it gets a second season, but it's in the "meh" territory. I've seen worse series get a second season.

Initially, this was interesting as this focuses on the main female lead being a complete bookworm and through circumstances gets engaged to a prince. Although, as the series progressed the common romance troupes started to be repetitive of Eliana being fragile and a damsel in distress. Also, there is a lot of fabricated melodrama throughout the show. In the end, this is an ok romance series, this is a formula you've seen before from other previous romance anime.

I have mixed feelings about that.
It seems Madhouse want to experiment for restricted budget - so they set an old romance of 70-80-90's in modern computer-based 2D animation style. Probably it become megahit in times of hand-drawn animation - but today overuse of white cant mask disadvantages of CG and even with different filters it seems hard to achieve warm pastel style of hand-drawn watercolour "paintings in moving".
Also there is a little odd to see princess who is in background genious invenror & reformist - but somewhat ditz trouth story. Her personage depth becoming contradictory.
Still - I find this effort & mix of old vs new - interesting.
Worth an effort if You like ancient anime or book stories about castles, knights, & princesses. In our days such series almost gone from existence.

Try till ep3 at least. The subtitle can be very janky, to the point you can have different interpretations of what's happening. And everything is solidified on ep3.
It's very nice and comfy watch, taking smart MC in a different manner. If you always wonder how a mature writing with this topic (usually fall under Josei), this would be it.
Plenty of romance, quick problem resolution, surrounded by likeable characters, and high production value.
