Full-out parody on ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms’.
I wish I knew more about the story of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, or perhaps even read/watched anything about it, because I have a huge feeling of lacking info when I watched this show. I was really at a loss after having watched the very first episode, where so many characters were displayed with so many relationships between them.
Nevertheless, despite the lack of knowledge about the relationships between the characters, the humor is good, the parody kicks in at lots of angles and the show eventually becomes enjoyable to watch – even when you have no knowledge about the original story.
Animation: Between good and average.
I almost said it was average, but there are actually some shots which are definitely above average. Also, some character movements are really worth mentioning, but most of the stuff is fairly average. They also have a couple of reused frames in the form of character transformations, but other than that there is not much to say about the animation of the show.
Sound[/u]: Even the voice actors are having fun.
I honestly can't remember anything about BGM and music in the show, so I'm going for the voice acting. That was good, as the voice actors seem to have fun while working on the show. Voices are brimming with energy and enjoyment and it shows even through the fact we can't see them, but only their animated counterparts.
Story[/u]: It's a parody, for crying out loud.
The story doesn't make sense, as it is a plain parody. There are two stories in one episode and although it does have something to follow, half of the time it is just trying to be funny. And while in the very first episodes it might not be very funny because you're not used to the characters, it grows on you.
Even the opening animation, where the ‘story’ gets summarized is showing much of the parody it displays. Upon entering the water, one could identify several characters from other anime. There are much other references, both in speech as in display, but one would have to notice them by themselves.
Characters[/u]: Ridiculous, but fun.
They had the wildest ideas when they came up with these character designs and that shows. Great characters, absolutely no character development and a whole lot of fun to come up with. Go figure.
Value & Enjoyment[/u]: Still enjoyable, despite the lack of info.
I have to admit, the first episode made me believe it wasn't worth the effort. It had so many characters which I didn't know and I felt I was missing 80% of the jokes due to that. But after the first episode, you get a feel of how they are related to each other and the remaining 3 episodes are fairly easy to sit through. This is mainly because of the comedy the show displays and the ridiculous characters it contains. The comedy is just as solid as most others and even with the lack of background info the comedy works wonders.
