Welz Animation Studios is a CG animation studio located in Shibaura - a district of Minato ward in Tokyo. Originally established in 2001 as the multimedia division of World Gourmet Service (ワールド食通サービス), the company became independent in July 2005.
The studio's name derives from:
- "W" in the name of its former parent company;
- kanji 植 (ue), which means "plant" (hence the sprout in the company's logo), and which is also a reference to the studio founder's name (the last kanji in his name is 樹, meaning "tree");
- the English word "wellness".
The founder and representative director of the company is Hiranuma Masashige.
