Sakai Akio is an animator, animation supervisor, character designer and director.

He started his career working for Mushi Pro as inbetweener, later joined Studio Live where he was working as animator, afterwards he gained experience as animation director and character designer at Madhouse before becoming storyboarder and episode director at Tokyo Movie.

In June 15, 1992 he went on to establish his own animation studio, Imagin. He is currently still acting as the representative director.

He changed the writing of his name from a hiragana version to kanji in 2000.

Sakai Akio is an animator, animation supervisor, character designer and director. He was formerly working for Studio Live and is the representative director of animation studio Imagin.
