Normally no anime can make me go wtf anymore. Episode 1 around 10:50 managed to do so anyway.
Impressive...
Everything else just just a typical feel good isekai setting.
Why the hell is that line there.
I wanna see the face of the voice actor having to dub that.
I decided to read some of the LN for this. I'm a short ways into volume 2 at the moment.
LN spoilers
What surprises me the most is how many people he outright kills. Sometimes it gets into Wuxia levels of bloodshed, and some of the deaths are a bit out there. He eventually figures out how to keep people alive with their heads separated by connecting two barriers between each half of their sliced necks and uses it for coercion and torture for information. He then proceeds to usually kill them anyway. Apparently the MC was born a psychopath? He just kills people constantly.
It's still an isekai power fantasy, and there's not really much tension or real reason to consume it while hoping for anything too meaningful, but I do think it is a bit above average. It has some things going for it. Based on volume 1 of the LN, I would kind of put it a ways under Tsukimichi in terms of overall feel (because in Tsukimichi he has a reason for the power, which this doesn't have yet, and a vendetta, on top of whatever positives this has). So around 5-5.5/10 or so. It's surprisingly not quite as bad as most recent isekai throwaways. Episode 3 is incredibly rushed. I'll keep reading, though; it could go very much downhill by the end of volume 2.

Barrier magic is supposed to be limited to simple shapes: cubes, rectangles, walls, spheres, domes, cylinders, pyramids, spears/lines, etc. 🧊
MC is able alter his barrier to animate shapes within the first few moments of testing his ability. Call it an immersion breaker for his premise. 🐦
Having magical abilities with hard limiters that can't be overcome and soft limiters that require some conditions is better than unlimited power. 👼🏼
PS, for some reason, I always thought this series was called " Barrier Master "
There isn't really a "supposed to be" that's applicable to fantasy world rules, especially across different titles. In their world, mana level might as well be straight up level, and the maximum known mana level is like 40-77 (with that top end being extremely, extremely rare) for a person. Power seems to go up somewhat exponentially with level. His level is 1002. That's basically in the realm of the gods. It's like comparing SSJ Goku to a caterpillar. I don't think it's implausible for a level 1002 barrier god to do Yakumo Yukari type of shenanigans with his magic, even right off the bat.

This sounds so bad that I have no motivation to download it just to see this one line, can you clip it for me or just put spoiler tags lol

I'm not sure if I'm just too open minded after all the shit I've seen in anime, but that didn't even come up on my radar. I just kind of ignored it and kept watching.
Okay, I just watched EP4 and some of EP5, and apparently they're reducing the age rating of this show...? That's not really the way he defeated some of those people, and that's definitely not what he ended up doing to her at the beginning of episode 5.
As I said earlier,

Do a bit of figuring and this is pretty much exactly what he does to the queen, too. Her head is sitting there on the ground while watching her decapitated body walking around. Her guards were pretty much all mass murdered.
I'm not sure why it's choosing to skip over these details. This level of bloodshed is kind of one of the things that makes this actually stand out a little, although there are other little touches as well.

It's not, this anime, like a lot of isekai adaptations, is adapting the manga and not the LN. It's basically a 1 for 1 adaptation from the manga, with barely any changes. There is only tiny change, and is that he kills that first bandit at the start of the story, but they changed it to him just throwing him to the wall in the anime. Other than that, it's exactly how the manga story goes.

I guess that makes sense, then. I usually read the LN/WN before I read the manga, when it comes to following up any isekai that I watch.
I guess that means that both the anime and the manga are a lot more boring than the LN, then. Shrug.

Yea basically. It would have made for a more interesting show if he was a psycho, but they just want more generic Isekai shows to fill in spots and keep the cash cow going. The time slot for this is also probably kid friendly, which is a factor.
This show proves how problematic it is if people only learn to use what others have created.
The whole plot feature of how the MC is presumed to be weak only works with a digital display that is too short to show all digits of the measurement.
But as the magic power level measurement isn't using a computer, it would simply show its maximum value.
Just like any ampere meter would (presuming it wouldn't burn out).
The author most definitely never once thought about how things work.
(You truly can't put all the blame on the Rockefellers and Rothschilds of the world, for looking down upon the "simple folks" as easy to manipulate sheeps.)
