Food and Allergy safety is a topic we take very seriously at Anthony’s. In order to be fully transparent with our customers, we make clear claims on our packaging, such as, “packed in a gluten free, allergen free facility”. Similarly, if a claim is not printed on a product, then the potential or unintentional presence of major food allergens in foods resulting from "cross-contact" situations during manufacturing may exist. The major food allergens identified by the FDA are as follows: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.
Per FDA Guidance, a “May Contain Statement” is not a substitute for adhering to current good manufacturing practices.
Even though most of our foods are run on their own lines, and all of our food packing procedures follow good manufacturing practices, we cannot guarantee that there is no chance of “cross-contact”. For that reason, we stay in line with the FDA guidelines on food packaging, and do not make any claim that the product is entirely allergen free. More can be found on the FDA’s website: http://www.fda.gov/Food/ResourcesForYou/Consumers/ucm079311.htm
Even though we’d love you as a customer, if you are affected by allergens, your health is paramount, and our policy is that we'd rather not have you take the risk.
