Fast Eddy's

The leaders of Fast Eddy’s set out to change the concept of a convenience gas station into a multi-use retail environment. With the first prototype store in Meridian, Idaho, Fast Eddy’s experienced immediate success with its customers. Adding a car wash, lube center, a 24-tap beer growler bar, and the first Earl of Sandwich location in the state, the reimagined Fast Eddy’s is leading the way into an evolved concept for modern convenience gas stations.

Situated on a five-acre campus, the new store measures in at an astounding 12,000 square feet—more than three times the average size of a convenience store. Owner Steve Eddy challenged the design team with his very specific vision for the store’s aesthetic. He wanted a warm yet industrial and rustic feel for the new retail environment. Beyond offering the desired appearance to achieve Eddy’s vision, all specified materials and design elements needed to be easy to clean and maintain, and durable to withstand the high traffic of a constantly busy space.

Starting with the selection of flooring materials for the store’s main areas, the design team specified Crossville’s Altered State porcelain tile collection in the Copper Core color. This unique hue within the Altered State line mimics the look of oxidized copper, and its convincing metallurgic appearance proved to be ideal for accomplishing the warm yet industrial and rustic look Eddy envisioned for the store. To add interest to the installation, the design team opted for 12” x 24” field tiles in a traditional stagger step throughout the expansive main areas.

To differentiate flooring for the sandwich shop eating areas and restrooms, the team chose Crossville’s Astral Plane porcelain tile collection in Magellan. This distinctive color is dark as mountain stone with details that harken to shooting stars. This tile blended beautifully with the main floor tile while offering a distinctly different look. 6” x 24” field tiles were installed in the eating area, and 24” x 24” tiles were used for the restroom floors. Additionally, the team used Astral Plane as wainscoting for the restroom walls for a cohesive design from floor to wall.

For the feature wall in the sandwich shop, the team brought in a fun, dimensional element with Crossville’s Simpatico collection. Simpatico’s playful cube format in bright white made a striking design statement  in combination with the the large, prominently displayed Earl of Sandwich logo. The pairing added unique texture and shape to allow this area to really stand out.

With the incorporation of thoughtful design and premium tile (more than 13,000 square feet of Crossville collections!), this Fast Eddy’s location invites customers to slow down and stay a while.
