|My name is Aaron Mealy, and I am running to represent you as Ward 2 city council member. I grew up in the Jefferson City area, graduated from Helias High School, attended Lincoln University, and then transferred to the University of Missouri-Columbia. I have deep family roots in Jefferson City.
I have served our city as a commissioner since 2021, and was elected chair of the commission in 2022.
I work for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in the Water Protection Program. The Water Protection Program regulates Missouri's drinking water systems to make sure that citizens have adequate water that is safe to drink.
I love Jefferson City and look forward to working hard for you!
- I became inspired to be a part of city government in the aftermath of the 2019 tornado. Like many, the first thing I wanted to do as the dust settled was help any and everyone who needed it. While I was out helping displaced community members move their homes and lives from the rubble, I noticed that members of city council were out there helping, as well. It was not for a photo op or to be seen. It was because they cared and genuinely wanted to help – that is excellent leadership and the legacy I strive to continue!
- I want to serve Jefferson City with thoughtful decision-making, compassion, and by focusing on the issues that impact everyday life. I am committed to working hard together to grow our city and will support affordable and adequate housing, improved and well-maintained infrastructure such as streets and sidewalks, contributing to our city’s active transportation plan, fostering thriving parks and recreation, and standing up for our firefighters, police, and all other city staff - all work that makes our city a better and desirable place to live.
- In my free time, I like to spend time with my family. I am also renovating a historic home on Clay Street in Ward 2. I enjoy the opportunity to fix up a property which further beautifies our town. I volunteer my time with several organizations such as the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri, Missouri River Relief, Project Homeless Connect, People Helping Paws Dog Rescue, and various litter clean-up efforts throughout Jefferson City. I find extraordinary value and satisfaction in service work and will continue to be of service to our community as your councilman.
I am passionate about doing the hard work that Jefferson City needs in order to improve our roads and infrastructure!
