Brandy Maltbia Woodley is a Kansas City, Missouri native. She earned her B.S. in International Business with a minor in French, with honors, from Northwest Missouri State University and her M.A. in Human Resources Management from Webster University. Brandy and her family retired from the U.S. Army life and settled in Parkville, MO. Her children have been part of the Park Hill School District since 2016. In April 2021, she was elected to the Park Hill Board of Education, becoming its first Black woman elected (and possibly in Platte County). Currently, Brandy is the Editor for the Department of Military History for the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) located on Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. In 2023, she earned her certification as a Women, Peace, and Security Gender Focal Point via the U.S. Army. She is her department’s Female Mentoring & Morale Program, Fort Leavenworth representative, working to bring more empowerment, support, and networking for women in uniform and Army Civilian Professionals. For service, Brandy is currently the Board President and a MSBA Delegate on the school board. During her first board term, she served as Board Treasurer and MSBA Delegate Alternate. She earned her MSBA Master and Advanced Certifications in 2023. She is also on the NWMSU Melvin D. & Valorie G. Booth School of Business Advisory Board. More Insight: brandywoodley4phsd.com
  • Excellence Through Equity Equity, as defined by the Park Hill School District (2022), is “the practice of removing barriers and providing people access and opportunities based upon what they need.” In my three years on the board, the district has made great strides to intentionally and unapologetically include this word and apply its meaning, starting with its guiding CSIP objectives and going beyond to building and student activities. I want to continue serving on the board to ensure accountability and implementation of equitable facilities, learning environments, activities, and instruction across every facet of the district, providing each student and staff member a healthier and more positive experience.
  • Excellence Through Belonging “It takes each and every one of us, with intention, to create a true sense of belonging as an atmospheric component, if you will, of Park Hill,” (2023 PHSD Convocation). Belonging is the key to growth, progress, and success for each and every student and program, as well as building a strong community. It not only enriches learning, but students feel connected to their school community, and staff are more effective when they are seen and valued. Each and every voice, demographic, socio-economic, learning ability, background, and more ALL belong in Park Hill, as our unique differences and preferences make us stronger and better-together and for each other.
  • Excellence Through Rigorous Learning Rigorous learning means many things to our diverse students, families, teachers, and community members. To ensure rigorous learning experiences for all, we must set high expectations, make them clear and accessible to each student, and promote practices and supports that guarantee every single child can meet them. At the core, rigor is about diversity since every learner will take their own unique path to success. Whether via AP and other high-level courses, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Culturally Responsive Education (CRE) practices, SEL strategies, or essential special education accommodations and modifications, our district must ensure that each student is met where they are and can grow.
I am a strong supporter and advocate for public education.
Michelle Obama's journey (as written in her book) inspires me and helped me push through some tough times.
Some of the core responsibilities are to work, advance, and implement policies and decisions with stakeholders in mind, not for personal gain or ideology.
I am proud to note that I have already begun legacy work by being a part of the district's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Advisory Council. There are definitive actions, drivers, and narratives that have been implemented into the CSIP and in each building. I hope that my representation at the board level opens doors and inspires more representation throughout the district.
I am a Black woman. I have always lived, worked, and attended academic institutions that are predominately white. As things have shifted in our nation, I have to move, code-switch, and work at least 5-10 times harder, all while being very aware of my surroundings and the people and views within those surroundings.
My primary job as a school board member is governance over the district leadership and policies and advocate for local control to do what is best for the Park Hill schools.
My constituents are the stakeholders of the Park Hill School District: students, staff, families, taxpayers and the Park Hill community. That is who I work as an elected official for.
