Westerman's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[162]

  • Economy
Excerpt: "Economic growth is the better way to generate public funds for education, infrastructure, and services. In contrast, taking the easy way out by raising taxes or creating programs that redistribute the same pool of wealth can hinder additional investments into businesses that generate wealth."
  • Education
Excerpt: "Education is an important part of the equation, but I believe we are failing our students when we encourage them to commit to education and then a number of those who commit have to go out of state to find a good job. Part of developing a good economy involves producing an educated work force."
  • Other Issues
Excerpt: "During the official closing ceremonies for a meeting of the FFA organization, the president states, "As we mingle with others, let us be diligent in labor, just in our dealings, courteous to everyone, and, above all, honest and fair in the game of life." This is a great piece of advice that I try to apply as I approach life's issues from a social and moral position. It emanates from the golden rule of doing to others as we would have them do to us. Even though the issues will be different and sometimes unexpected, my desire is to frame them from this perspective."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Arkansas

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
