Collapse all
|Cindy's life has always centered around the goal of making a difference in the lives of others. In 1988, she joined the Long Beach Police Department, a time when very few women were doing that job. She worked for nearly a decade and was seriously injured in the line of duty. She was recognized with more than 20 commendations for bravery and exceptional service.
Cindy founded several successful businesses in downtown Long Beach. She also bought the Long Beach Post and served as Publisher for many years until it was sold several years ago.
Cindy was appointed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn to serve as a commissioner for the L.A. County Small Business Administration.
Cindy is a double mastectomy breast cancer survivor, has been married to her husband for 25 years, and has two adult children. She is the proud mom of a lesbian daughter and works diligently with the LBGTQ community to ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people can live openly without discrimination.
- As an active community member and longtime resident of Long Beach, I understand the issues and challenges that face our community, and I am committed to making our city a better place to live for all residents.
- I know we can do so much more to make our city safer, build more affordable housing, reduce homelessness, and effectively address COVID-19 related issues.
- As the only endorsed candidate of the Democratic party in this race, I am ready to bring people together and advocate for our shared progressive values.
Make science-based decisions on healthcare policy and identify sustainable funding to accomplish public health goals while investing in more contact tracers.
Police Reform
Our city council has the opportunity to make Long Beach a leader and a model for other police departments to follow. We need to increase transparency, accountability, and training along with examining all aspects of law enforcement. My top priorities will be to:
Environment
Long Beach has been ranked among the worst in air quality in the United States, but that only tells part of the story. Data shows our black and brown communities disproportionately suffer the effects of such air quality.
Housing for All
Support inclusionary housing to ensure affordable housing is included in all new developments in the city.
Economic Recovery
We are in the middle of a global pandemic that has led to a recession. As we fight this disease, we must also work toward rebuilding our economy.
Parking Solutions Now
On 5 June 1981, The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the first official report on what would come to be known as the AIDS epidemic, I was 15 years old.
