Campaign themes

2014

Cozad's campaign website listed the following issues:[3]

  • Free QUALITY Public Education and Affordable Higher Education are the backbone of our nation: "Every child in America deserves a safe, inspiring learning environment with up-to-date textbooks and professional teachers. Teachers deserve safe working conditions, good pay and resources which enables them to engage their students, inspiring and enabling them to excel. Teachers needs a support system to make them more productive, efficient and effectively use the technical resources supplied to them."
  • Every American deserves equal pay for equal work.: "Women average 77 cents to a dollar earned by a man with the same education and experience doing the same job. We must end not only gender and racial discrimination, but we also have a lot of hard work to do in eliminating the disparity in opportunities which are preparation for employment and advancement!"
  • Responsible Government: "I believe the act of shutting down the government was the most self-serving and irresponsible act by any legislator. The shutdown was caused by a minority that could not accept the fact they were a minority. This minority decided they could force the majority of Congress to vote for policies that were dangerous to the American people and a majority of Americans knew it was bad for them and the nation."
  • Personal Healthcare Decisions: "Health care decisions should not be legislated by politicians. There is nothing “pro-life” about requiring that a woman to die to save an unborn. Those difficult and heart-wrenching decisions should be made by the woman, her family, and her medical professional, not by legislators or judges!"
  • Immigration Reform is long over-due: "First, I support the Dream Act because it is the right and moral thing to do. Besides we have already educated these young people, and we should benefit from our investment in them! As legal citizens of this nation, they will have jobs and pay taxes just like every good citizen."
