Jonathan Skrmetti
Jonathan Skrmetti (Republican Party) is the Attorney General of Tennessee. Skrmetti assumed office on September 1, 2022. Skrmetti's current term ends on September 1, 2030.
Tennessee is unique in that the attorney general is appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court, rather than by the governor. The Tennessee Supreme Court appointed Skrmetti attorney general on August 10, 2022, to replace Herbert H. Slatery.[1]
Biography
Jonathan Skrmetti earned degrees from the University of Oxford, George Washington University, and Harvard University Law School.[2] Skrmetti's career experience includes working as the chief deputy to Tennessee Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery, a partner with Butler Snow LLP, and an assistant United States attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee.[1][2]
