|- One of Karla's priorities is to improve access to health care. She will continue to support community-based behavioral health services, better drug prices and the renewal of Medicaid Expansion.
- Another priority for Karla is to ensure a high-quality education from preK to K-12 to higher education. The state must strengthen funding for K-12 schools, which face challenges in teacher retention & student well-being.
- Karla also believes we should build an economy that works for everyone. This includes addressing the daycare crisis by strengthening assistance for families & providers and creating a paid family leave program in ND.
Specifically, Karla has sponsored paid family leave legislation so people don't have to choose between their job/paycheck and caring for themselves or a loved one, and she has provided leadership on criminal justice reform efforts, including a pretrial pilot program that helps improve lives while saving money. She also sponsored and helped pass legislation to improve care for people with diabetes and a bill to help more veterans access hearing aids, glasses and dentures.
Today, many workers can work from anywhere, so we should aim for North Dakota to be their home by choice and make appropriate investments to further that goal. The ND Legislature should use the state’s assets for affordable housing and high-quality public education, as well as accessible daycare & health care, making ND a more attractive place to live & work. The ND Legislature should also avoid passing extreme policies that make ND an unwelcoming place.
Karla also seeks to understand the impact of policies through deep learning and relationship building. For example, as a ND House Judiciary committee member, Karla proactively meets with law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, and corrections & parole officers, as well as offenders, victims and advocates.

|- Safe and healthy neighborhoods are one of Karla's priorities. During her first term, Karla championed improvements to behavioral health services, passed a bill to assist veterans with health care, and wrote a bill to help prevent suicide and other gun violence. Going forward, improved access to affordable health care is necessary.
- Karla will continue advocating for an economy that works for everyone. Karla sponsored a paid family leave policy so people don't have to choose between a paycheck and caring for a loved one. She co-sponsored the university research fund bill to help diversify our state's economy. Maintaining strong investments in education - from preK through higher education - will also be a priority.
- Karla will continue to stay deeply engaged with her north Fargo neighbors. To better understand her constituent's priorities and listen to their feedback, she has held nearly two dozen public forums with her seatmates. They also send out regular newsletters with legislative and pandemic-related updates.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
