2009

On April 24, 2009, New Hampshire Governor John Lynch nominated State Representative Tara Reardon to become the commissioner of the Department of Employment Security.[3] The vacancy created by the appointment led to a special election, held in November of 2009. Blankenbeker won the special election by receiving 860 votes, defeating Democrat Jim MacKay, who received 838 votes. Blankenbeker was sworn into office on November 18, 2009.[4]

2008

Blankenbeker ran unsuccessfully for the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 2008. She ran for election from District 11 of Merrimack County, receiving 2,703 votes. Blankenbeker failed to win a seat in the 2008 election because District 11 has five seats, and Blankenbeker did not finish as one of the top five finishers in the election.[5]
