What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
REDUCE TRAFFIC CONGESTION - I'm just as frustrated with Plano traffic as you are—especially the traffic congestion generated by commuters just “passing through” Plano. I will work to improve our city infrastructure (especially the outdated roads in the older parts of town) and get Plano moving again. KEEP PROPERTY TAXES LOW - Our high property taxes harm families. In Plano, we’re fortunate to have one of the lowest tax rates in the Dallas area; I'm committed to keeping our property taxes low. PROTECT THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF OUR NEIGHBORHOODS - I've seen the dramatic increase of traffic in Plano and has seen how that can damage our quality of life. I will work to protect the suburban atmosphere Plano residents moved here for. I will also work tirelessly to ensure that the quality of life in our neighborhoods is maintained as Plano grows.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Diversity and unity. A survey showed that what Plano citizens appreciate most about our community is its diversity, and I'm passionate about it, too. I hope to be a unifying force that can help heal some of the divisions in our community.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
I have always admired Barbara Bush. She raised great children and was a class act - a no-nonsense woman who was the backbone of her entire family.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
There's a saying that taking out the trash is not a Democratic or Republican issue. Plano's elections have historically been nonpartisan. I think that's the main reason why our city has been so well run. It's why we've managed to enjoy the best amenities while paying one of the lowest tax rates in the Metroplex. Let's keep partisan politics out of Plano and keep it the city of excellence! I'm a fiscal conservative who will work my hardest to keep our taxes low while maintaining the wonderful services we all love and enjoy in Plano: our parks, our libraries, our reaction centers, and our excellent police, fire and EMTs.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Integrity, honesty, transparency and a thick skin. Sometimes you have to make decisions that others may not agree with. But when you do have the first three - integrity, honesty and transparency - you'll never look back.
