I am a mother, teacher, and a 4th generation Nevadan. Currently, I also have the honor of serving as the Assemblymember for Assembly District 25 in Reno. I was first elected as the Assemblymember for District 25 in 2022 and served in the Nevada Legislature for one regular and two special sessions. In my first regular session, I sponsored bills to improve the learning and working conditions in Nevada schools, address climate change, and protect the basic rights of all Nevadans. As an Assemblymember and classroom teacher, I have always been a fierce advocate for my community and I fight every day to ensure that my constituents are heard in the halls of power.
  • Our district needs a teacher’s voice in the room where decisions are made and that is why I am running for reelection in Assembly District 25. From an underfunded education system to the ravages of climate change to the lack of affordable housing, we face many challenges in Nevada. At times, addressing these issues seems daunting; however, they are not insurmountable. With courage, honesty, and a willingness to try something new we can solve these problems and create a brighter future for all Nevadans.
  • As an Assemblymember and classroom teacher, I have always been a fierce advocate for my community and I fight every day to ensure that my constituents are heard in the halls of power. I am running for reelection to continue that fight for our community. Teachers face no shortage of challenges in the classroom and the work never ends. This has more than prepared me for the Nevada Legislature and I promise no one will work harder for our community than me.
  • I am the only candidate in this race who has been endorsed by our Washoe community. I have earned the endorsement of Washoe teachers, Washoe firefighters, Washoe law enforcement, and Washoe Workers.

I've also earned those endorsements from groups all across the state, but Washoe is our home and Washoe voices are the ones that matter most to me.

I've also earned the support of abortions rights groups like Planned Parenthood and Emily's List, environmental advocacy groups like the Nevada Conservation League and Sierra Club, and groups working on a whole host of issues to support our community like Make the Road Action and Silver State Equality. Everyone working to make Nevada brighter is on Team Selena.
Education, Climate Change, Abortion Rights.
Honesty, integrity, and a willingness to fight for what's right for your constituents, no matter the cost.
I have been a ferocious advocate for my community from the moment I took office as the Assemblymember for AD 25. I am proud of my record of fighting for our community, no matter the politics. I have the courage, honesty, and willingness to challenge the status quo that our community needs in an elected representative.
To ensure the voices of every member of your community are heard in the halls of power.
I believe my experience in the Nevada Legislature uniquely prepares me to fight for my constituents next session. I know the players, I know the game, and I know how to stand up for my community in a way that someone who has been uninvolved in Nevada politics could never replicate.
My goal is to make our schools better, our environment healthier, and our community safer. I will go wherever it is I need to go to make that happen, but I believe the NV Legislature is that place.

I was born in Reno as a fourth generation Nevadan and grew up on a cattle ranch near Pyramid Lake. Today I live in Northwest Reno with my husband Stephen, our daughter Abigail, and our dog Luna. I have spent nearly a decade teaching underprivileged children in Washoe County School District, first at Hug High School and now at North Valleys High School. I love the work that I do because every day I feel like I am making real and positive change in the lives of children. I genuinely believe that education is the only way we can truly change the world and I am proud to help shape our next generation to be thoughtful, empathetic, and empowered leaders in our world. The realities of what educators have faced over the last several years has inspired me to serve my community in another way – in the Nevada State Assembly. As a parent, a teacher, and Reno citizen, I am not content to sit on the sidelines while our children are actively harmed by the education system in Nevada. I know we can do better for our children and I am ready to serve.
  • We face many challenges in Nevada. From an underfunded education system to the highest unemployment in the nation to the ravages of climate change. At times, addressing these issues seems daunting; however, they are not insurmountable. With courage, honesty, and a willingness to try something new we can solve these problems and create a brighter future for all Nevadans.
  • We’ve known it for years – education is broken in Nevada. And yet, nothing seems to change. Every two years, our leaders promise to fix our education system, but as someone who is in the classroom, I can tell you, I don’t see the fixes happening. Enough is enough. Clearly, we need more educators in the room where decisions are made. We cannot continue to accept the status quo. We cannot stand by while another generation of Nevadans is left behind by our broken school system. Our leaders must take their role as stewards of our schools seriously and they must increase their investment in our schools. I will make sure that happens when I am in the room.
  • Our district needs a teacher’s voice in the room where decisions are made. A voice of someone who understands what it means to carry thousands of dollars in student debt and pay almost half your income in childcare expenses. A voice of someone who understands the struggles of affording housing in a market that has priced out all but the richest Nevadans. A voice of someone who feels the impact of decisions made by the legislature. A voice of someone who has never been afraid to question the status quo and advocate for everyday Nevadans. I will be that voice in the legislature for Assembly District 25.
I want to ensure the voices of everyone in our community, including our BIPOC and LBGTQ+ communities, are heard and honored in the halls of power. Together, we can raise our voices and make real and powerful changes for our children, our community, and the people of Nevada. We can address climate change, diversify our economy, create good paying union jobs, and ensure everyone has access to quality affordable healthcare. We can make the dream of owning a home a reality for more Nevadans and ensure that housing is affordable in our community. Most importantly, we can fix our broken education system and fulfill the promise to every Nevada child that they can receive a quality education which prepares them for the future.

A brighter Nevada is possible, and I am committing all of my energies to ensure that it becomes a reality. I hope that you will join me in this campaign and help transform our Reno community and state for the better.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Nevada

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
