Servants For The Temple Are Gathered

15 And I gathered them together, unto the river that cometh into Ahava, and we encamped there three days, - and I informed myself among the people and the priests, and, of the sons of Levi, found I none there.

15 And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.

15 Now I assembled them at (D)the river that runs to Ahava, where we camped for three days; and when I observed the people and the priests, I (E)did not find any Levites there.

15 I gathered them at the river(e) that flows to Ahava,(G) and we camped there for three days. I searched among the people and priests, but found no Levites(H) there.

15 I gathered them together at the river that flows toward Ahava, where we camped three days. Afterwards, I examined the people and the priests, but found no descendants of Levi there.

16 So I sent for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men, - also for Joiarib and for Elnathan, teachers.

16 Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding.

16 So I sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah and Meshullam, (c)leading men, and for Joiarib and Elnathan, teachers.

16 Then I summoned the leaders: Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam,(I) as well as the teachers Joiarib and Elnathan.

16 So I sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, who were senior leaders, as well as for Joiarib and Elnathan, who were men of discernment.

17 And I sent them forth unto Iddo the chief, at the place Casiphia, - and I put into their mouth words, to speak unto Iddo and his brethren the Nethinim, at the place Casiphia, to bring unto us attendants for the house of our God.

17 And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, and to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

17 I sent them to Iddo the (d)leading man at the place Casiphia; and I (e)told them what to say to (f)Iddo and his brothers, (F)the temple servants at the place Casiphia, that is, to bring ministers to us for the house of our God.

17 I sent them to Iddo, the leader at Casiphia, with a message for(f) him and his brothers, the temple servants(J) at Casiphia, that they should bring us ministers for the house of our God.

17 I told them to go see Iddo, a leader of Casiphia, and tell him and his relatives (administrators of Casiphia) to bring us men who could serve in the Temple of our God.

18 So they brought unto us, according to the good hand of our God upon us, a man of discretion, of the sons of Mahli, son of Levi, son of Israel, - and Sherebiah, and his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

18 And by the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

18 (G)According to the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a (H)man of insight of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel, namely Sherebiah, and his sons and brothers, 18 men;

18 Since the gracious hand of our God was on us,(K) they brought us Sherebiah(L)—a man of insight from the descendants of Mahli, a descendant of Levi son of Israel—along with his sons and brothers, 18 men,

18 By the grace of our God they brought back a discerning man from the descendants of Mahli, a descendant of Israel's son Levi, along with Sherebiah and eighteen of his sons and brothers;

19 and Hashabiah, and, with him, Jeshaiah, of the sons of Merari, - his brethren and their sons, twenty;

19 And Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

19 and Hashabiah and (g)Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, with his brothers and their sons, 20 men;

19 plus Hashabiah,(M) along with Jeshaiah, from the descendants of Merari, and his brothers and their sons, 20 men.

19 Hashabiah and Jeshaiah from the descendants of Merari and 20 of his brothers and their sons;

20 and 220 of (I)the temple servants, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levites, all of them designated by name.

20 There were also 220 of the temple servants,(N) who had been appointed by David and the leaders for the work of the Levites. All were identified by name.

20 220 descendants of the Temple Servants whom David and the leaders had appointed to serve the descendants of Levi, listed by name.

Ezra Proclaims A Fast

21 Then proclaimed I there a fast, by the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, - to seek of him a smooth way, for us and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

21 Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

21 Then I proclaimed (J)a fast there at (K)the river of Ahava, that we might (L)humble ourselves before our God to seek from Him a (h)safe journey for us, our little ones, and all our possessions.

21 I proclaimed a fast(O) by the Ahava River,(g) so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask Him for a safe journey for us, our children, and all our possessions.

21 Then I called for a fast there at the Ahava River so we could humble ourselves before our God and seek from him an appropriate way for us and our little ones to live, and how we should guard our personal wealth,

22 For I was ashamed to ask of the king, a band of soldiers and horsemen, to help us against the enemy in the way, because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God, is upon all who seek him, for good, But, his power and his anger, are against all who forsake him.

22 For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.

22 For I was ashamed to request from the king troops and horsemen to (i)protect us from the enemy on the way, because we had said to the king, “(M)The hand of our God is (j)favorably disposed to all those who seek Him, but (N)His power and His anger are against all those who (O)forsake Him.”

22 I did this because I was ashamed to ask the king for infantry and cavalry to protect us from enemies during the journey, since we had told him, “The hand of our God is gracious to all who seek Him, but His great anger is against all who abandon Him.”(P)

22 because I was ashamed to ask the king for a contingent of soldiers and cavalry to protect us from enemies we might encounter on the way. After all, we had told the king, "The hand of our God seeks the good of all who seek him, but his power and anger are against everyone who forsakes him."

23 So we fasted and sought of our God, concerning this, - and he suffered himself to be entreated by us.

23 So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.

23 So we fasted and sought our God concerning this matter, and He (k)(P)listened to our entreaty.

23 So we fasted and pleaded with our God about this, and He granted our request.

23 So we fasted and asked our God about this, and he listened to us.

The Priests' Gift For The Temple

24 Then I separated, from among the rulers of the priests, twelve, - even Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and, with them, from among their brethren, ten;

24 Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,

24 Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests, (Q)Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and with them ten of their brothers;

24 I selected 12 of the leading priests, along with Sherebiah,(Q) Hashabiah, and 10 of their brothers.

24 Next I selected twelve of the chief priests Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brothers with them

25 and weighed unto them, the silver and the gold, and the utensils, - the heave-offering for the house of our God, which the king and his counselors and his rulers and all Israel who were present, had offered:

25 And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellers, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered:

25 and I (R)weighed out to them (S)the silver, the gold and the utensils, the offering for the house of our God which the king and (T)his counselors and his princes and all Israel present there had offered.

25 I weighed out to them the silver, the gold, and the articles—the contribution for the house of our God that the king, his counselors, his leaders, and all the Israelites who were present had offered.

25 and divided between them the silver, the gold, the vessels, and the offering for the Temple of our God which the king had offered, along with his advisors, his senior officials, and all of Israel assembled there.

26 I even weighed unto their hand, of silver, six hundred and fifty talents, and, of utensils of silver, a hundred talents, - of gold, a hundred talents;

26 I even weighed unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels an hundred talents, and of gold an hundred talents;

26 (U)Thus I weighed into their hands 650 talents of silver, and silver utensils worth 100 talents, and 100 gold talents,

26 I weighed out to them 24 tons(h) of silver, silver articles weighing 7,500 pounds,(i) 7,500 pounds(j) of gold,

26 I divided among them 650 silver talents, silver utensils weighing 100 talents, 100 talents of gold,

27 and, bowls of gold, twenty, of a thousand drams, - and, utensils of fine bright bronze, two, precious as gold.

27 Also twenty basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold.

27 and 20 gold bowls worth 1,000 darics, and two utensils of fine shiny bronze, precious as gold.

27 20 gold bowls worth 1,000 gold coins,(k) and two articles of fine gleaming bronze, as valuable as gold.(R)

27 20 gold basins weighing 1,000 darics each, and two vessels made of polished brass, as valuable as gold.

28 Then said I unto them, Ye, are hallowed unto Yahweh, and, the utensils, are hallowed, - and, the silver and the gold, are a freewill offering, unto Yahweh, God of your fathers:

28 And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the LORD; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the LORD God of your fathers.

28 Then I said to them, “(V)You are holy to the Lord, and the (W)utensils are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the Lord God of your fathers.

28 Then I said to them, “You are holy to the Lord, and the articles are holy. The silver and gold are a freewill offering(S) to the Lord God of your fathers.

28 I told them, "You are consecrated to the LORD, and the vessels are also consecrated. The silver and the gold are a freely given offering to the LORD God of your ancestors.

29 Watch and guard, until ye weigh them before the rulers of the priests and the Levites and the ancestral rulers of Israel, in Jerusalem, - in the chambers of the house of Yahweh.

29 Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.

29 Watch and keep them (X)until you weigh them before the leading priests, the Levites and the heads of the fathers’ households of Israel at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the Lord.”

29 Guard them carefully until you weigh them out in the chambers of the Lord’s house before the leading priests, Levites, and heads of the Israelite families in Jerusalem.”

29 Guard and protect them until you disperse them to the chief priests, the descendants of Levi, and to the family leaders of Israel at Jerusalem in the chambers of the Temple of the LORD."

30 So the priests and the Levites accepted the weight of the silver and the gold, and the utensils, - to bring to Jerusalem, unto the house of our God.

30 So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

30 So the priests and the Levites (Y)accepted the weighed out silver and gold and the utensils, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.

30 So the priests and Levites took charge of the silver, the gold, and the articles that had been weighed out, to bring them to the house of our God in Jerusalem.(T)

30 So the priests and descendants of Levi took possession of the silver, the gold, and the vessels in order to bring them to Jerusalem, to the Temple of our God.

Return To Jerusalem

31 Then brake we up from the river of Ahava, on the twelfth of the first month, to journey unto Jerusalem, - and, the hand of our God, was upon us, and he delivered us from the grasp of the enemy and of the lier in wait, by the way.

31 Then we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.

32 So we came to Jerusalem, - and we rested there, three days.

32 And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.

32 (AC)Thus we came to Jerusalem and remained there three days.

32 So we arrived at Jerusalem and rested there for three days.(W)

32 We arrived in Jerusalem and remained there three days.

33 And, on the fourth day, was weighed - the silver and the gold and the utensils, in the house of our God, unto the hand of Meremoth son of Uriah, the priest, and, with him, was Eleazar son of Phinehas, - and, with them, were Jozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui, Levites:

34 by the number and by the weight of the whole, - and all the weight, was written down, at that time.

34 By number and by weight of every one: and all the weight was written at that time.

34 Everything was numbered and weighed, and all the weight was recorded at that time.

34 Everything was verified by number and weight, and the total weight was recorded at that time.

34 Distribution was according to inventory and weight, with all weights being recorded at that time.

35 They who came in out of the captivity, Sons of the Exile, offered as ascending-sacrifices unto the God of Israel - bullocks twelve for all Israel, rams ninety-six, young sheep seventy-seven, he-goats for bearing sin, twelve, - the whole, as an ascending-sacrifice unto Yahweh.
