1 For the choir director. A Psalm of David.O (A)God of my praise,(B)Do not be silent!

1 For the choir director. A Davidic psalm.God of my praise, do not be silent.(A)

1 God, whom I praise, do not be silent,

2 for the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me; they spoke against me with a lying tongue.

2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

2 For they have opened the (a)wicked and (C)deceitful mouth against me;They have spoken (b)against me with a (D)lying tongue.

2 For wicked and deceitful mouths open against me;they speak against me with lying tongues.(B)

2 for the mouths of wicked and deceitful people are opened against me; they speak against me with lying tongues.

3 And they surrounded me with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

3 They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,And fought against me (E)without cause.

3 They surround me with hateful wordsand attack me without cause.(C)

3 They surround me with hate-filled words, attacking me for no reason.

4 For my love they are my foes; but I am in prayer.

4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

4 In return (F)for my love they act as my accusers; But (G)I am in prayer.

4 In return for my love they accuse me,but I continue to pray.(a)(D)

4 Instead of receiving my love, they accuse me, though I continue in prayer.

5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

5 Thus they have (c)(H)repaid me evil for goodAnd (I)hatred for my love.

5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my love.(E)

5 They devise evil against me instead of good, and hatred in place of my love.

6 Set a wicked man over him; and let an adversary stand at his right hand,

6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

6 Appoint a wicked man over him,And let an (d)(J)accuser stand at his right hand.

6 Set a wicked person over him;let an accuser(b) stand at his right hand.(F)

6 Appoint an evil person over him; may an accuser stand at his right side.

7 when he is judged, let him be condemned; and let his prayer become sin.

7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

7 When he is judged, let him (K)come forth guilty,And let his (L)prayer become sin.

7 When he is judged, let him be found guilty, and let his prayer be counted as sin.(G)

7 When he is judged, may he be found guilty; may his prayer be regarded as sin.

8 Let his days be few; let another take his office.

8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

8 Let (M)his days be few;Let (N)another take his office.

8 Let his days be few;let another take over his position.(H)

8 May his days be few; may another take over his position.

9 Let his sons be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

9 Let his (O)children be fatherlessAnd his (P)wife a widow.

9 Let his children be fatherlessand his wife a widow.(I)

9 May his children become fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his sons always beg and be vagabonds, and seek food out of their ruins.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

10 Let his (Q)children wander about and beg;And let them (R)seek sustenance (e)far from their ruined homes.

10 Let his children wander as beggars, searching for food far(c) from their demolished homes.(J)

10 May his children roam around begging, seeking food while driven far from their ruined homes.

11 Let the money-lender lay a snare for all that is his; and let strangers take the fruit of his labor.

11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

11 Let (S)the creditor (f)seize all that he has,And let (T)strangers plunder the product of his labor.

11 Let a creditor seize all he has;let strangers plunder what he has worked for.(K)

11 May creditors seize all his possessions, and may foreigners loot the property he has acquired.

12 Let there be none to give mercy to him; nor any to favor his fatherless children.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.

12 Let there be none to (g)(U)extend lovingkindness to him,Nor (V)any to be gracious to his fatherless children.

12 Let no one show him kindness, and let no one be gracious to his fatherless children.(L)

12 May no one extend gracious love to him, or show favor to his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

13 Let his (W)posterity be (h)cut off;In a following generation let their (X)name be blotted out.

13 Let the line of his descendants be cut off;let their name be blotted out in the next generation.(M)

13 May his descendants be eliminated, and their memory be erased from the next generation.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered to Jehovah; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

14 Let (Y)the iniquity of his fathers be remembered (i)before the Lord,And do not let the sin of his mother be (Z)blotted out.

14 Let his ancestors’ guiltbe remembered before the Lord,(N)and do not let his mother’s sin be blotted out.(O)

14 May his ancestors' guilt be remembered in the LORD's presence, and may his mother's guilt not be erased.

15 Let them be always before Jehovah, that He may cut off their memory from the earth,

15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

15 Let (AA)them be before the Lord continually,That He may (AB)cut off their memory from the earth;

15 Let their sins(d) always remain before the Lord, and let Him erase(e) all memory of them from the earth.(P)

15 May what they have done be continually in the LORD's presence; and may their memory be excised from the earth.

16 because he did not remember to do mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, and sought to kill the broken-hearted.

16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.

16 Because he did not remember to show lovingkindness,But persecuted the (AC)afflicted and needy man,And the (AD)despondent in heart, to (AE)put them to death.

16 For he did not think to show kindness, but pursued the afflicted, poor, and brokenheartedin order to put them to death.(Q)

16 For he didn't think to extend gracious love; he harassed to death the poor, the needy, and the broken hearted.

17 Yea, he loved cursing, so let it come to him; he delighted not in blessing, and it was far from him.

17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

17 He also loved cursing, so (AF)it came to him;And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him.

17 He loved cursing—let it fall on him;he took no delight in blessing—let it be far from him.(R)

17 He loved to curse may his curses return upon him! He took no delight in blessing others so may blessings be far from him.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing, as with his robe, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

18 But he (AG)clothed himself with cursing as with his garment,And it (AH)entered into (j)his body like waterAnd like oil into his bones.

18 He wore cursing like his coat—let it enter his body like waterand go into his bones like oil.(S)

18 He wore curses like a garment may they enter his inner being like water and his bones like oil.

19 Let it be to him as the robe which covers him, and for a girdle with which he is always clothed.

19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

19 Let it be to him as (AI)a garment with which he covers himself,And for a belt with which he constantly (AJ)girds himself.

19 Let it be like a robe he wraps around himself, like a belt he always wears.(T)

19 May those curses wrap around him like a garment, or like a belt that one always wears.

20 This is the reward of my foes from Jehovah, and of them who speak evil against my soul.

20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

20 (k)Let this be the (AK)reward of my accusers from the Lord,And of those who (AL)speak evil against my soul.

20 Let this be the Lord’s payment to my accusers,to those who speak evil against me.(U)

20 May this be the way the LORD repays my accuser, those who speak evil against me.

21 But You, Lord Jehovah, deal kindly with me for Your name's sake; because Your mercy is good, deliver me.

21 But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.

21 But You, O (l)God, the Lord, deal kindly with me (AM)for Your name’s sake;Because (AN)Your lovingkindness is good, deliver me;

21 But You, Yahweh my Lord, deal kindly with me because of Your name;(V)deliver me because of the goodness of Your faithful love.(W)

21 Now you, LORD my God, defend me for your name's sake; because your gracious love is good, deliver me!

22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

22 For (AO)I am afflicted and needy,And (m)my heart is (AP)wounded within me.

22 For I am afflicted and needy;(X)my heart is wounded within me.(Y)

22 Indeed, I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

23 As a shadow when it is stretched out, I am gone; I am shaken off like the locust.

23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.

23 I am passing (AQ)like a shadow when it lengthens;I am shaken off (AR)like the locust.

23 I fade away like a lengthening shadow;(Z)I am shaken off like a locust.

23 I am fading away like a shadow late in the day; I am shaken off like a locust.

24 My knees stumble from fasting; and my flesh is losing its fatness.

24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.

24 My (AS)knees (n)are weak from (AT)fasting,And my flesh has grown lean, without fatness.

24 My knees are weak from fasting, and my body is emaciated.(f)(AA)

24 My knees give way from fasting, and my skin is lean, deprived of oil.

25 And I became a shame to them; they looked on me; they shook their heads.

25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.

25 I also have become a (AU)reproach to them; When they see me, they (AV)wag their head.

25 I have become an object of ridicule to my accusers;(g)when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn.(AB)

25 I have become an object of derision to them they shake their heads whenever they see me.

26 Help me, O Jehovah my God; save me according to Your mercy;

26 Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy:

26 (AW)Help me, O Lord my God;Save me according to Your lovingkindness.

26 Help me, Lord my God;save me according to Your faithful love(AC)

26 Help me, LORD my God! Deliver me in accord with your gracious love!

27 and they will know that this is Your hand; that You, Jehovah, have done it.

27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.

27 (o)And let them (AX)know that this is Your hand; You, Lord, have done it.

27 so they may know that this is Your handand that You, Lord, have done it.(AD)

27 Then they will realize that your hand is in this that you, LORD, have accomplished it.

28 They will curse, but You will bless; they arise, and are ashamed; but let Your servant rejoice.

28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.

28 (AY)Let them curse, but You bless; When they arise, they shall be ashamed,But Your (AZ)servant shall be glad.

28 Though they curse, You will bless. When they rise up, they will be put to shame, but Your servant will rejoice.(AE)

28 They will curse, but you will bless. When they attack, they will be humiliated, while your servant rejoices.

29 Let my foes be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own shame, as with a cloak.

29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

29 (p)Let (BA)my accusers be clothed with dishonor,And (q)let them (BB)cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

29 My accusers will be clothed with disgrace;they will wear their shame like a cloak.(AF)

29 May my accusers be clothed with shame and wrapped in their humiliation as with a robe.

30 I will greatly praise Jehovah with my mouth; yea, I will praise Him among the multitude.

30 I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

30 With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly to the Lord; And in the midst of many (BC)I will praise Him.

30 I will fervently thank the Lord with my mouth;I will praise Him in the presence of many.(AG)

30 I will give many thanks to the LORD with my mouth, praising him publicly,

31 For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those who condemn his soul.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

31 For He stands (BD)at the right hand of the needy,To save him from those who (BE)judge his soul.

31 For He stands at the right hand of the needyto save him from those who would condemn him.(AH)

31 for he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to deliver him from his accusers. A Davidic psalm
