So whenever you give to the poor, don't blow a trumpet before you like the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets so that they will be praised by people. I tell all of you with certainty, they have their full reward!
Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth; a stranger, and never your own lips.
So let no one boast about human beings, since everything belongs to you,
But if you have bitter jealousy and rivalry in your hearts, stop boasting and slandering the truth.
This is what the LORD says: "The wise man is not to boast in his wisdom; the strong man is not to boast in his strength; and the rich man is not to boast in his riches. Like clouds and winds without rain is the man who brags about gifts he never gave.

These people are complainers and faultfinders, following their own desires. They say arrogant things and flatter people in order to take advantage of them.
