Jesus said: Let the dead bury their own dead; but do you go and publish abroad the kingdom of God.

And as Jesus passed by from that place, he saw a man named Matthew, sitting at the custom-house; and he said to him: Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphoeus sitting at the custom-house; and he said to him: Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

But this he said, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he said to him: Follow me.

And he said to them all: If any one determines to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and fol low me.

And many multitudes were journeying with him; and he turned and said to them: If any one comes to me, and hates not his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and his own life also, he can not be my disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, can not be my disciple.

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying: I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

If any one serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant also be. If any one serve me, him will my Father honor.

Jesus said to him: If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? Do you follow me.
