And another of his disciples said to him: Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said to him: Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.
Be you, therefore, imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, as the Christ also loved us, and gave him self for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet odor.
Let our people also learn to practice good works for necessary uses, that they may not be unfruitful.
but as he who has called you is holy, so be you holy in all your behavior: because it is written, Be you holy, for I am holy.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls.
And he immediately called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
For I have given you an example, that you also may do as I have done for you.
And when they had brought their ships to the land, they left all and followed him.
But you have not so learned the Christ, if, indeed, you have heard of him, and been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
and he died for all, that those who live should no more live for them selves, but for him who died for them, and rose again.
For no one lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; or if we die, we die to the Lord. "Whether, therefore, we live or die, we are the Lord s.
To this, indeed, you have been called; because even Christ suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you should follow his footsteps.
so that he no longer lives the rest of his time in the flesh, according to the desires of men, but according to the will of God.
He that says, he abides in him, ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Therefore, when he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, he reclined at table again, and said to them: Do you understand what I have done for you? You call me Teacher and Lord; and you say well, for so I am. If, then, I, your Lord and your Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.read more.

And going on thence, he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
But the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have spoken to you.
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.read more.
This is my commandment: That you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you.
But when he, the Spirit of the truth, has come, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak of himself; but what he hears, that will he speak, and he will show you things to come.
He that loves father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me: and whoever does not take his cross and fol low after me, is not worthy of me. He that finds his life shall lose it; and he that loses his life for my sake, shall find it.

Do those things which you have learned and received, and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
If any one comes to me, and hates not his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and his own life also, he can not be my disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, can not be my disciple.
And Jesus, looking on him, loved him, and said to him: One thing you lack; go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and fol low me.
Whoever will seek to save his life, shall lose it; and whoever will lose his life, shall save it.
When Jesus heard this, he said to him: One thing you yet lack; sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it to eternal life.
and he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looking on him, said: You are Simon, the son of Jonah; you shall be called Cephas (which, when translated, is Rock).
that, as to your former life, you put off the old man, which is corrupt, according to its deceitful desires, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, which, according to the will of God, is created in righteousness and true holiness.
But this he said, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he said to him: Follow me.
And these things, brethren, I have, in figure, applied to my self and Apollos, for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think more of teachers than what has been written; and that no one of you be vain of one to the injury of another.

The disciple is not above his teacher; but every accomplished disciple shall be as his teacher.
Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any one determines to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
For those whom he foreknew, he predestinated to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the first-born among many brethren:
Be imitators of me, brethren, and observe those who thus walk as you have us for an example.

I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may learn what the will of God is the good, and the acceptable, and the perfect.

For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us: for we did not behave in a disorderly manner among you,
And whoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, can not be my disciple.
but put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.
And we all, with unvailed face, reflecting the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image, from glory to glory, even as by the Lord the Spirit.
But if any widow has children or grand-children, let them learn first to be dutiful to their own family, and to requite their parents; for that is good and acceptable in the sight of God.
But do you continue in the things which you have learned and well understood, knowing from whom you learned them,
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every pollution of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
If any one serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant also be. If any one serve me, him will my Father honor.
according as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him in love,
These are they that were not defiled with women; for they are virgins; these are they that follow the Lamb wherever he goes: these were redeemed from among men, the first-fruits to God and to the Lamb.
whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance: for you serve the Lord Christ.
Put on, therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, a merciful disposition, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering:
But Jesus called them to him, and said: You know that the rulers of the Gentiles act as lords over them, and their great men have authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever will be great among you, let him be your minister. And whoever will be first among you, let him be your servant;read more.
even as the Son of man came, not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
But Jesus called them to him, and said to them: You know that those who think they rule the Gentiles, act as lords over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever desires to be great among you, shall be your minister; and whoever among you desires to be first, shall be servant of all.read more.
For the Son of man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the desires which you formerly had in your ignorance; but as he who has called you is holy, so be you holy in all your behavior:
in what requires diligence, be not slothful; in spirit, be fervent; in service, be devoted to the Lord;
so, even for this very purpose, uniting to these things all diligence, add to your faith, virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge, temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
For they themselves declare concerning us what kind of entrance we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God,
Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every one that has this hope in Him purifies himself, even as He is pure.
Then said Jesus to those Jews that believed on him: If you continue in my word, you are my disciples indeed,
There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night, and said to him: Rabbi, we know that thou hast come as a teacher from God; for no man can do these signs which thou doest, unless God be with him.
He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me shall be loved by my Father; and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Nicodemus said to them (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them):
If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not burdensome.
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying: All authority in heaven and on earth is given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations, immersing them (the disciples) into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commanded you: and lo; I am with you all the days, even to the end of the age.
You are the light of the world: a city that lies upon a mountain can not be hid: neither do men light a lamp and place it under the measure, but on the lamp-stand, and it gives light to all that are in the house. In this way let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
and the things which you have heard from me through many witnesses, these do you commit to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
And he himself gave some to be apostles, and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the complete instruction of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the body of the Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to a measure of stature that fully develops the Christ;read more.
that we might no longer be children, tossed and carried about by every wind of teaching, through the artifice of men, through craftiness used by them for the deliberate planning of deceit; but speaking truthfully in love, we might grow up in all things, into him who is the head, even the Christ, from whom the whole body, compactly fitted together, and united by every helping joint, according to the energy in the measure of each part, makes increase of the body, for the building up of itself in love. This I say, therefore, and appeal to you solemnly in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the other Gentiles walk, in the error of their minds,
And they attended constantly to the teaching of the apostles, and the fellowship, and the breaking of bread, and the prayers.
Then said Jesus to those Jews that believed on him: If you continue in my word, you are my disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine-dresser. Every branch in me that bears no fruit, he takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Now are you pure, through the word which I have spoken to you.read more.
Abide in me, and I will abide in you. As the branch can not bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing. If any one abide not in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and withers; and such are gathered, and thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done for you. In this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; and in this you will be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If any one comes to me, and hates not his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and his own life also, he can not be my disciple.
So, then, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has, can not be my disciple.
But do you speak the things that become sound teaching; that the aged men be vigilant, grave, sober-minded, sound in faith, in love, in patience; that the aged women likewise be, in deportment, as it becomes holy women, not slanderers, not enslaved to much wine, teachers of good things,read more.
That they may teach the young women to be sober-minded, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, fond of home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not reviled. Exhort the young men likewise to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself an example of good works; in teaching, showing incorruptness, gravity, sound speech that can not be condemned; that he that is opposed may be ashamed, seeing he has no evil thing to say of us.
And it came to pass, as they were going on their journey, that a certain man said to him: Lord, I will follow thee wherever thou shalt go. And Jesus said to him: The foxes have dens, and the birds of the air have roosts, but the Son of man has not where to lay his head. And he said to another: Follow me. But he replied: Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.read more.
Jesus said: Let the dead bury their own dead; but do you go and publish abroad the kingdom of God. And another said: I will follow thee, Lord; but first permit me to take leave of those at home. Jesus said to him: No one that puts his hand to the plow, and looks back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
