So then, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions which you were taught, whether by [spoken] word or by letter from us.

men who have risked their lives on behalf of the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore we have sent Judas and Silas, and they will report the same [things] by word of mouth. For it seemed best to the Holy Spirit and to us to place on you no greater burden except these necessary things: [that you] abstain from food sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. [If you] keep yourselves from {these things} you will do well. Farewell. So [when] they were sent off, they came down to Antioch, and [after] calling together the community, they delivered the letter. And [when they] read [it] aloud, they rejoiced at the encouragement.
I wrote to you in the letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
so that I do not want to appear as if I were terrifying you by my letters, because it is said, "His letters [are] severe and powerful, but his bodily presence [is] weak and his speech is of no account." Let such a person consider this: that what we are in word by letters [when we] are absent, [we will] also [be] in {actions} [when we] are present.
