So they both ran together, but the other disciple out-ran Peter, and came first to the sepulchre:

when Jesus saw the people flock together, He rebuked the impure spirit, and said to him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, Come out of him, and enter no more into him.

And He said to the disciples, the time will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and shall not see it. And they will say to you, Behold, He is here, or behold He is there: but go not after them, nor follow them.

But I went up according to a divine revelation, and laid before them the gospel which I preach among the gentiles: though privately to those of note, least I should run, or had run in vain.

But none of these things move me, nor do I account my life dear, so that I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Ye did run well: who hindered you from obeying the truth?

Do all things without murmurings and disputings: that ye may be blameless and inoffensive, the children of God without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom ye shine as lights in the world, exhibiting the word of life; to my rejoicing in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, nor laboured in vain.

For I am now going to be sacrificed, and the time of my dissolution is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished my race, I have kept the faith. As to what remains, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me in that day: and not to me only, but also to all those who have longed for his appearance.

Having therefore so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every incumbrance, and the sin that easily besets us, and run with patience the race that is set before us,
