The spirit is the principle of life, the flesh availeth nothing: now the words that I speak unto you are spirit, and therefore life.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in wise: when Mary his mother was promised in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child by the Holy Ghost:

As Christ also once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust (that He might introduce us to God) being indeed put to death in the flesh, but raised to life by the Spirit:
but powerfully declared to be the Son of God, according to the spirit of holiness, by his resurrection from the dead, even Jesus Christ our Lord;
Jesus answered, I tell thee of a truth, Unless a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
That, which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that, which is born of the Spirit, is spirit. Do not wonder that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. As the wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound of it, but knowest not whence it cometh, or whither it goeth; so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath set me free from the law of sin and death.
Now to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace: because the carnal mind is an enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be: and they who are carnal, cannot please God.read more.
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if the Spirit of God dwelleth in you: but if any one hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body indeed is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness. He then, who soweth to his flesh, shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he, that soweth to the Spirit, shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
And on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If any one thirst, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, rivers of living water shall flow from within him. (This He spake of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive; for the holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith unto thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldst have asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto Him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou the living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his children, and his cattle?read more.
Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water, will thirst again; but he that drinketh of the water which I shall give him, shall never thirst: but the water, which I shall give him, will be in him a fountain of water springing up unto eternal life.
And he shewed me a pure river of the water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God, and of the Lamb. And in the midst of the street, and of the river, which ran on each side, was the tree of life, producing fruits twelve times in the year, yielding its different fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
