'Blind' in the Bible
Yahweh said to him, “Who made the human mouth? Who makes him mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, Yahweh?
You must not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but you are to fear your God; I am Yahweh.
No man who has any defect is to come near: no man who is blind, lame, facially disfigured, or deformed;
You are not to present any animal to the Lord that is blind, injured, maimed, or has a running sore, festering rash, or scabs; you may not put any of them on the altar as a fire offering to the Lord.
But if there is a defect in the animal, if it is lame or blind or has any serious defect, you must not sacrifice it to the Lord your God.
‘The one who leads a blind person astray on the road is cursed.’And all the people will say, ‘Amen!’
so that at noon you will grope as a blind man gropes in the dark. You will not be successful in anything you do. You will only be oppressed and robbed continually, and no one will help you.
The king and his men marched to Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the land. The Jebusites had said to David: “You will never get in here. Even the blind and lame can repel you”; thinking, “David can’t get in here.”
He said that day, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites must go through the water shaft to reach the lame and the blind who are despised by David.” For this reason it is said, “The blind and the lame will never enter the house.”
If I have refused the wishes of the pooror let the widow’s eyes go blind,
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.The Lord raises up those who are oppressed.The Lord loves the righteous.
Dull the minds of these people;deafen their ears and blind their eyes;otherwise they might see with their eyesand hear with their ears,understand with their minds,turn back, and be healed.
Stop and be astonished;blind yourselves and be blind!They are drunk, but not with wine;they stagger, but not with beer.
On that day the deaf will hearthe words of a document,and out of a deep darknessthe eyes of the blind will see.
Then the eyes of the blind will be opened,and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
in order to open blind eyes,to bring out prisoners from the dungeon,and those sitting in darkness from the prison house.
I will lead the blind by a way they did not know;I will guide them on paths they have not known.I will turn darkness to light in front of themand rough places into level ground.This is what I will do for them,and I will not forsake them.
“Listen, you deaf!Look, you blind, so that you may see.
Who is blind but My servant,or deaf like My messenger I am sending?Who is blind like My dedicated one,or blind like the servant of the Lord?
Bring out a people who are blind, yet have eyes,and are deaf, yet have ears.
Israel’s watchmen are blind, all of them,they know nothing;all of them are mute dogs,they cannot bark;they dream, lie down,and love to sleep.
We grope along a wall like the blind;we grope like those without eyes.We stumble at noon as though it were twilight;we are like the dead among those who are healthy.
Watch! I am going to bring them from the northern land.I will gather them from remote regions of the earth—the blind and the lame will be with them,along with those who are pregnant and those about to give birth.They will return here as a great assembly!
נ NunBlind, they stumbled in the streets,defiled by this blood,so that no one daredto touch their garments.
I will bring distress on mankind,and they will walk like the blindbecause they have sinned against the Lord.Their blood will be poured out like dustand their flesh like dung.
Woe to the worthless shepherdwho deserts the flock!May a sword strike his armand his right eye!May his arm wither awayand his right eye go completely blind!”
“When you present a blind animal for sacrifice, is it not wrong? And when you present a lame or sick animal, is it not wrong? Bring it to your governor! Would he be pleased with you or show you favor?” asks the Lord of Hosts.
As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, shouting, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
When He entered the house, the blind men approached Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I can do this?”“Yes, Lord,” they answered Him.
the blind see, the lame walk, those with skin diseases are healed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news.
Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and unable to speak was brought to Him. He healed him, so that the man could both speak and see.
Leave them alone! They are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”
and large crowds came to Him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, those unable to speak, and many others. They put them at His feet, and He healed them.
So the crowd was amazed when they saw those unable to speak talking, the deformed restored, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they gave glory to the God of Israel.
There were two blind men sitting by the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
The blind and the lame came to Him in the temple complex, and He healed them.
“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever takes an oath by the sanctuary, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gold of the sanctuary is bound by his oath.’
Blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the sanctuary that sanctified the gold?
Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
Blind guides! You strain out a gnat, yet gulp down a camel!
Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so the outside of it may also become clean.
Then they came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to Him and begged Him to touch him.
He took the blind man by the hand and brought him out of the village. Spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?”
They came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”So they called the blind man and said to him, “Have courage! Get up; He’s calling for you.”
Then Jesus answered him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”“Rabbouni,” the blind man told Him, “I want to see!”
The Spirit of the Lord is on Me,because He has anointed Meto preach good news to the poor.He has sent Meto proclaim freedom to the captivesand recovery of sight to the blind,to set free the oppressed,
He also told them a parable: “Can the blind guide the blind? Won’t they both fall into a pit?
At that time Jesus healed many people of diseases, plagues, and evil spirits, and He granted sight to many blind people.
He replied to them, “Go and report to John the things you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with skin diseases are healed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news.
On the contrary, when you host a banquet, invite those who are poor, maimed, lame, or blind.
“So the slave came back and reported these things to his master. Then in anger, the master of the house told his slave, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame!’
As He drew near Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging.
Within these lay a large number of the sick—blind, lame, and paralyzed [—waiting for the moving of the water,
His disciples questioned Him: “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
They brought the man who used to be blind to the Pharisees.
Again they asked the blind man, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?”“He’s a prophet,” he said.
The Jews did not believe this about him—that he was blind and received sight—until they summoned the parents of the one who had received his sight.
They asked them, “Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”
“We know this is our son and that he was born blind,” his parents answered.
So a second time they summoned the man who had been blind and told him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner!”
He answered, “Whether or not He’s a sinner, I don’t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I can see!”
Throughout history no one has ever heard of someone opening the eyes of a person born blind.
Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, in order that those who do not see will see and those who do see will become blind.”
Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and asked Him, “We aren’t blind too, are we?”
“If you were blind,” Jesus told them, “you wouldn’t have sin. But now that you say, ‘We see’—your sin remains.
Others were saying, “These aren’t the words of someone demon-possessed. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”
But some of them said, “Couldn’t He who opened the blind man’s eyes also have kept this man from dying?”
Now, look! The Lord’s hand is against you. You are going to be blind, and will not see the sun for a time.” Suddenly a mist and darkness fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness,
The person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.
Because you say, ‘I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t know that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked,
