Gladion's Silvally was originally created as a beast killer
Illustrated by Hitoshi Ariga for Pokémon Sun and Moon

The beast killer project (Japanese: Beast Killer 開発 プロジェクト Beast Killer development project), also abbreviated as BKP (Japanese: BKP), was a project ran by the Aether Foundation. Under the direction of Aether's president, Lusamine, it was an attempt to create an "Anti-UB Fighting life-form", a Pokémon designed to fight against the Ultra Beasts.

In the core series games

Research for the BKP was developed with data collected on myths and legends involving a Mythical Pokémon found from Canalave City's library in the Sinnoh region. This research resulted in creating a Pokémon dubbed a beast killer (often shorted to BK) that could shift to any of the 18 Types that a Pokémon could have, using a special program called the RKS System. The RKS System would require the usage of special memories to achieve this. After its creation, the BK's official name was set to Type: Full (Japanese: タイプ:フル Type: Full). Three models of Type: Full were created, serial number 01 (Japanese: S/N―01), serial number 02 (Japanese: S/N―02) and serial number 03 (Japanese: S/N―03). All three models rejected their RKS System during testing and went berserk. Without the president's knowledge, Faba created a control mask to reduce the effects of their rejection on the RKS System. All three Type: Full were placed into cryogenic stasis for eternity, and were reassigned from Type: Full into Type: Null. Gladion had renamed the Type: Full species to Silvally.

The Pokémon and the project were created in order to kill Ultra Beasts, a group of highly dangerous and unknown extraterrestrial Pokémon. Apart from name alone, this information would remain ambiguous until Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, where Wicke specifically claims that Type: Full were created as potential weapons to fight against Ultra Beasts. In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Gladion states "My partner Null was born to be a beast killer!" further mentioning in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon that he had trained his Type: Null to be able to take down Ultra Beasts that may appear from the other side of the Ultra Wormhole. The Beast Killer project was developed concurrently with the creation of Beast Balls, a specialized type of Poké Ball designed specifically for capturing Ultra Beasts.

The research documents of the beast killer project were eventually made public some time before the events of Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon according to Faba's blog. A fourth model made from stolen documents was also developed in the Galar region, with the model being given to the player in Pokémon Sword and Shield by Macro Cosmos.

Pokémon created

A total of three Type: Full models were produced for the beast killer project. Two of the models were seen in-game, with the third being left in an unknown state. All known Type: Null and Silvally were put in Poké Balls.

Gladion's Silvally

Main article: Gladion's Silvally

Gladion's Silvally was among the three produced. Gladion had stolen the Pokémon without his mother's knowledge, only telling Wicke of his plans. Gladion sympathizes with Type: Null, hoping to break the control mask. The player comes across this Pokémon numerous times. Silvally's form will change depending on the first partner Pokémon the player originally chose.

Pokémon Sun and Moon

In Pokémon Sun and Moon, the player can visit Aether Paradise in their post-game adventure. Gladion will be waiting there to tell the player about the effects they had on him and his family, and thanking them with a Type: Null in hopes they can achieve the same as he did with his Silvally. He provides the player with all memory drives that are required for Silvally's RKS System.

Type: Null can be Shiny.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, after the player has gone through Episode RR, they can meet with Wicke at Poni Grove. On Gladion's behalf, due to his departure to Kanto, she will give the player a Type: Null and its memory drives. If the player is unable to collect the Pokémon at Poni Grove, Wicke will instead be at Aether Paradise.

Type: Null can be Shiny.

BKP Development Records

A list of development records were left in Aether Paradise's Secret Lab A, the location where Silvally and Type: Null were created.

  • BKP Development Record #2 Anti-UB Fighting life-form, B (Beast) K (killer) The president has approved the proposed budget for this development project, so it will be implemented.
  • BKP Development Record #5 Materials for development have been collected from the Canalave Library in the Sinnoh region. Plans are being drawn up for the specifications of the Type change program, known as the RKS System. Work is underway on designing the specifications of special memories for said system.
  • BKP Development Record #7 Collection of cells of all Types for genetic modeling has been completed. Blueprints for the skeletal structure have been approved, and incubation of the bio-frame is underway.
  • BKP Development Record #11 Dummy test of the RKS System program has been completed. Type has been successfully altered with all 18 special memories. The transplantation of the RKS System program to the models is underway. The BK’s official name has been set as Type: Full.
  • BKP Development Record #18 Production of three models has been completed. They are identified as serial number 01, serial number 02, and serial number 03. All three models rejected the RKS System upon initialization during testing. Shortly after these initialization errors, all three models of Type: Full went berserk.
  • BKP Development Record #44 Models have been fitted with control masks to mitigate the effects of their rejection of the RKS System. Due to the implementation of these control masks, our RKS System initialization tests have failed. All three models of Type: Full are to be cryogenically frozen for the rest of eternity. The name of these models has been changed from Type: Full to Type: Null.

Faba's blog entries

In the same room, Faba's blog entries can be read on a computer, providing insight on the before and after of his involvement with the project.

First entry
"This is the blog of F, a branch chief working in the Alola region."
"Title: Introduction"
"Are you interested in success, dear readers? Then allow me to introduce myself. My name is F, and I am an elite, self-made man. Here on my blog, I will show you the way to succeed."
Second entry
"This is the blog of F, a branch chief working in the Alola region."
"Title: Multitasking"
"Currently I am working on the development of a special sort of ball, which I took over from my predecessor, in parallel with another project. Seeing how well I multitask impresses my subordinates and increases their motivation. Showing how skillful you are is a kind of on-the-job training for your underlings."
Third entry
"This is the blog of F, a branch chief working in the Alola region."
"Title: Hedging risks"
"I once ventured to undertake a project without notifying my superior. I developed a device to restrain a dangerous life form, in case it became necessary to do so. I had it made for hedging risks to protect myself, but for better or worse, it was made public. It is always essential to consider the risks before one takes action."
Fourth entry
"This is the blog of F, a branch chief working in the Alola region."
"Title: Massaging the truth"
"My superior's family stole the results of our research and ran off. However, I have chosen to never blow this issue out of proportion. I will only be reprimanded for my own mistakes, and surely my superior is also displeased with the actions of her family as well. When necessary, one must always be prepared to massage the truth to protect one's own position. It is not an exaggeration to say that this skill is vital for success."

In the spin-off games

Pokémon Masters EX

Gladion's Silvally appears in Pokémon Masters EX, where he says the Pokémon had a troubled past and was abused by the people who had originally made it, referring to its history at the Aether Foundation.
