The Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box was a special product released to serve as a preview of the Evolving Skies expansion. The boxes could be purchased from retailers in the Prerelease Program from August 14, 2021 or were given to participants at the start of Evolving Skies Prerelease events. Although unsanctioned, these events were able to be held for the first time in over a year at some locations following the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and were typically hosted on the weekends of August 14-15 and 21-22, 2021. Two boxes could also be obtained at a later date in copies of a new product associated with Evolving Skies—the Evolving Skies Build & Battle Stadium.
Included in each Build & Battle Box was a 23-card Evolution pack that included one of four specially stamped Prerelease cards for the expansion, as well as four Evolving Skies booster packs. The Prerelease cards for the Evolving Skies expansion were Flaaffy, Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. Each of these cards were accompanied by a group of other Pokémon that shared their respective types.
Build & Battle Boxes could include exclusive Non Holofoil versions of Holofoil cards from the Evolving Skies expansion: Eldegoss, Regieleki, and Zoroark. They could also provide a re-release of Non Holofoil Sword & Shield Professor's Research originally from the Sword & Shield Build & Battle Box.
Box structure
Section 1
Each box included two of the following four different groups of Pokémon cards, with one group always coinciding with the Prerelease promo.
Section 2
Each box also included six random Supporter cards from the following (five if the Galarian Zapdos group was enclosed), with no more than two copies of a particular card.
