Status conditions are effects in Pokémon UNITE that affect a Pokémon's ability to battle. They are analogous to status conditions from the core series games, but many function differently from their core series counterparts. The menu listing out some of these effects in the Battle Guide is labelled Conditions.

Overview

A Pokémon can gain a status condition as a result of using an attack or being hit by an attack. Some other items and interactive objects can grant or inflict status conditions. The symbol of a status condition is displayed above the Pokémon it is affecting, and some of them also display the full name of the condition. Status conditions go away on their own, either because the move granting them to its user has concluded or just because they only have a specific duration. Some Abilities and moves care about if a Pokémon is being affected by a status condition. One example of this is Gengar's Hex. Some less common effects serve to cure status conditions from Pokémon, such as the Full Heal and Wigglytuff's Starlight Recital. Some moves, basic attacks, and Abilities cause status conditions largely unique to them.

Some properties that are status conditions in the core series games, like paralysis, are not status conditions in this game. However, paralysis still exists as an effect, reducing a Pokémon's movement speed.

Hindrance

Main article: Hindrance

Certain status conditions are hindrances. This group of conditions generally prevent the Pokémon afflicted with them from using some kinds of actions. Usually, those actions include moving and attacking. Losing the ability to attack in this manner interrupts any currently occurring attacks. However, this group of status conditions can be blocked through the Invincible, Unstoppable, and Hindrance Resistance status conditions.

List of non-hindrance status conditions

Burned

Burned is a status condition inflicted by certain moves. It damages the Pokémon at frequent intervals. The damage dealt is either Sp. Atk damage if it was inflicted by a Sp. Atk Pokémon, or Attack damage if it was inflicted by a Attack Pokémon. Many moves used by Pokémon that are Fire-type in other games can cause Burned. It wears off after a short time time. Burned only uses its symbol as an indicator.

Vision Obscured

Vision Obscured is a status condition inflicted by certain moves. It puts a dark overlay over player's screen except for a small circle around the Pokémon. Pokémon outside of this circle cannot be seen, even if they are allies of the Pokémon. Wild Pokémon are immune to Vision Obscured. It wears off after a short time.

Hindrance Resistance

Hindrance Resistance is a status condition granted by certain moves. It converts the effects of all hindrances inflicted on the Pokémon into a movement speed decrease, such that the Pokémon never falls under the effect of the hindrance. This largely serves to allow certain moves with long durations to function in the face of attempts to inflict hindrances. Examples of these kinds of moves are Greedent's Covet and Tyranitar's Ancient Power. However, Hindrance Resistance does not block the effect of Bound.

Unstoppable

Unstoppable is a status condition granted by certain moves. The jump pads and superjump springboard make Pokémon Unstoppable while they are launched by them. It makes the Pokémon immune to all hindrances, as well as blocking Vision Obscured and movement speed reductions. This is often used by powerful moves in order to allow them to trample over attempts to stop them. This is especially true when said powerful moves also involve movement. Many Unite Moves use Unstoppable as well, to prevent them from being cut short by regular moves. Effects that cure status conditions usually also grant Unstoppable for some time as well. However, Unstoppable does not block the effect of Bound.

Invincible

Invincible is a status condition granted by certain moves. It is also granted to Pokémon when they revive at their base after being knocked out. It has all of the same effects as Unstoppable, with the added benefit of making the Pokémon immune to taking damage. The AI of the game ignores Pokémon who are Invincible.
