Victory Road (Masters)
Victory Road (Japanese: チャンピオンロード Champion Road) is an area in Pokémon Masters EX that serves as a guide for challenging Hard mode in the Champion Stadium. The player, accompanied by Rosa and Lillie, advances through story areas where various Champions teach them about basic and advanced battle mechanics. Each lesson also includes a battle using a set team, where the player must demonstrate their understanding of the mechanics in order to win.
Players receive various rewards for completing Victory Road, including Gems, 5★ Scout Tickets, and items for training sync pairs. Completing all battles rewards the player with a One-Time-Only 5★-Select Scout Ticket, which can be used in the One-Time-Only 5★-Select Ticket Scout. This scout lets players recruit 11 sync pairs and then choose to team up with either Sygna Suit Red & Charizard, Sygna Suit Leaf & Venusaur, or Sygna Suit Blue & Blastoise.
Victory Road was introduced on February 24, 2022. It can be played after completing Kanto Challenge: Normal in the Champion Stadium.

- The Road to Hard Mode
Name | Text |
---|---|
(City; the player, Lillie, and Rosa are talking) | |
<player> and his/her team beat the Champion Stadium and got into the Hall of Fame. | |
Rosa | We did it, <player>! |
Lillie | When we give it our all, we can battle on par with members of the Elite Four—and even Champions! |
??? | It's still too early to celebrate! |
(Blue, Lorelei, Agatha, Bruno, and Lance appear) | |
Blue | The real challenge starts with Hard mode! |
Rosa | Blue! And the Indigo Elite Four! |
Lillie | But what do you mean by Hard mode? |
Bruno | Exactly what you think! In the Champion Stadium, Normal mode is just a gateway to even tougher challenges! |
Lorelei | More and more sync pairs have been coming to challenge us here at the Champion Stadium. |
Lance | The stronger our challengers, the more experience we gain from battling them! We learn from this experience, and we use it to fine-tune our skills even further! |
Agatha | That's how we're able to make things even more challenging for you in Hard mode! We're not fond of losing, either, you know! |
Rosa | I... I see. |
Lillie | We only barely beat them on Normal mode... Will we even stand a chance? |
Blue | Yeah, it'll be tough unless you really understand the ins and outs of Pasio's three-on-three battles! But y'know what? Pasio's also got the perfect training ground for super champions... Victory Road! |
Lillie | What?! |
Blue | There, you can really get a good understanding of how battles work... So maybe you should give it a shot! I'm looking forward to another match with you all once you've upped your game even more! |
(Blue and the others leave) | |
Rosa | All right, <player>! Since we've made it this far, why don't we make beating Champion Stadium's Hard mode our next goal? |
Lillie | Yeah! Let's head over to Victory Road and start training more! |
(Lillie and Rosa cheer) |
- Roles and Tactics: Part 1
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Mountain; N is looking around, then notices the player's group) | |
N | Hi. Are you all here to train, too? |
Rosa | Yup! We just beat the Champion Stadium for the first time! |
N | I see. If you want a few pointers, I'd be happy to share what I've learned. How about we train together? |
Lillie | Sure! That'd be great! |
N | It might be easier to understand three-on-three battles with rental Pokémon. They're the right fit for this training, and they're happy to help out! |
(N sends out a Scolipede) | |
N | *chuckle* What a lively friend. I can teach you about sync pair roles and tactics—and by "tactics" I mean the order in which your opponent will target sync pairs on your team. First, roles describe what a sync pair does. Let me break them down for you. Strike sync pairs are great at attacking, but they also take a lot of damage when they're hit. Support sync pairs are great at strengthening allies and restoring HP. They're able to take hits, but they're not so great at attacking. There's also tech sync pairs. They can do all sorts of things, from inflicting status conditions to changing the weather. The best way to optimize these roles is to keep them in mind when selecting your tactics—the order in which your sync pairs will get attacked! For example, even if you have a sync pair with a powerful attack, they won't be able to use it as much if they're the first on your team to get KO'd. |
Rosa | Ohhh, I get it! So it's probably best to have a support sync pair get targeted first, because they're better suited for taking hits! |
N | Correct. Why don't we put it into practice and learn a bit about strike and support sync pairs in a battle? As you're putting your team together, try thinking about a strategy for who gets targeted in what order! |
- Roles and Tactics: Part 2
Name | Text |
---|---|
N | Great. You've done well to consider roles and tactics in battle. Why don't you go on ahead? You might learn even more! |
Rosa | Thanks, N! You sure taught us a lot! |
Lillie | Thank you, too, Scolipede! Let's keep going, shall we? |
- Sync Buffs: Part 1
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Further up the mountain; Lance, Diantha, and Iris are talking, but Iris notices the player's group and waves) | |
Iris | Heeeey! Over here! |
Lance | We were waiting for you! We can teach you about the importance of using sync moves. |
Rosa | Oh, I know all about that! Sync moves are a lot more powerful than regular moves! |
Diantha | It's not just that they're powerful. |
Iris | Yeah! Right after you use a sync move, you get this cool thing called a sync buff! |
Lillie | A sync buff? |
Diantha | That's right! Every time you use a sync move, your team's attacks will become more powerful! That's what a sync buff is! |
Lance | The more sync buffs you get, the stronger your team will be! |
Diantha | But remember, your opponents get sync buffs when they use their sync moves, too. That's why it's important to use a lot of moves as quickly as you can to reduce your sync move countdown. |
Lillie | But using moves depletes your move gauge, so you have to get creative about how to battle without running out of move gauge slots! |
Iris | Yep! Trainer moves don't use up any slots, and they still count toward your sync move countdown! |
Rosa | Oh, really? Then maybe it's a good idea to use a lot of Trainer moves! |
Lance | OK! Let's test that out in battle! |
- Sync Buffs: Part 2
Name | Text |
---|---|
Lance | Great! You had your entire team use a lot of moves quickly so you could use your sync move! |
Diantha | See how much of an advantage you get if you build up your sync buffs faster than your opponent? |
Lillie | Yes! Thank you so much, everyone! |
Iris | You've totally got this! I'm rooting for you! |
- Attack and Sp. Atk: Part 1
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Further up the mountain, near a waterfall; Steven notices the player's group and waves) | |
Steven | Hey there! I bet you're here to learn something new! |
Lillie | Yup! We're training to become super champions! |
Steven | Sounds great! Well then, I suppose I could give you a tip or two... You know about moves that can strengthen a Pokémon's stats, right? There's a lot to choose from, but ones that can raise your Pokémon's Attack or Sp. Atk are important, as they help you deal more damage! One thing to watch out for is how moves are categorized. That determines which stat you should focus on raising! The Attack stat strengthens physical attack moves, while Sp. Atk strengthens special attack moves. You can tell which category a move falls under by the icon shown next to it. Before you head out to battle, it's always a good idea to check which categories your team's moves fall under! |
Rosa | Got it! |
Steven | OK, let's jump right into some practice! Think you can rack up some damage even with a rental Pokémon? |
- Attack and Sp. Atk: Part 2
Name | Text |
---|---|
Steven | Awesome! You've got it down pat! By focusing on raising either Attack or Sp. Atk, you can find efficient ways to deal more damage with your attack moves! I think I saw Wallace up ahead. I bet he'd have a few pointers for you as well! |
Lillie | Thank you so much, Steven! |
- Defense and Sp. Def: Part 1
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Cave; Wallace notices the player's group) | |
Wallace | I see you've come for some training! How marvelous to see Trainers working so hard to be their best selves! Perhaps I can be of some help. You've already spoken with Steven, right? |
Rosa | Yup! He taught us all about Attack and Sp. Atk! |
Wallace | Great. Then I can teach you a few things about Defense and Sp. Def. These two stats determine how much damage is reduced when your Pokémon is hit by an opponent's attack move, much like a shield. And just like with Attack and Sp. Atk, the amount of damage a move deals can change depending on which category the move falls under. Defense reduces damage from physical attack moves, while Sp. Def reduces damage from special attack moves. If you're struggling with a tough opponent, it may be because you need to raise the stat that's strong against the category of the moves they're using. There are also certain moves that can raise your allies' Defense and Sp. Def! In fact, lots of support sync pairs can use Trainer moves that do just that! |
Lillie | Moves that can protect your allies? How lovely! |
Wallace | OK, time to give it a go. Try to defend yourself against my attacks! |
- Defense and Sp. Def: Part 2
Name | Text |
---|---|
Wallace | How wonderful! And elegant—infuriatingly so! You can better protect your team by knowing which stat to raise—Defense or Sp. Def! I wish you the best on your journey to become super champions! |
Rosa | Thanks a bunch, Wallace! |
- Critical Hits: Part 1
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Deeper in the cave; Leon notices the player's group and waves) | |
Leon | Hey, <player>! I was waiting for you lot to show up! |
Rosa | Are you training here, too, Leon? |
Leon | Actually, I was going to ask Blue and his team for a battle... But I heard all about what you're doing, and I decided to help you out instead! After all, my dream is for everyone to get stronger together! First, let's have ourselves a battle! |
(Rosa and Lillie are shocked, but Lillie recovers and looks determined) | |
Leon | I'll figure out what I can teach you from how you battle! |
(Leon and the player battle; after the player attacks him three times, he interrupts the battle) | |
Leon | That's all for now! You won't be beating me with attacks like that! |
(The battle ends; Leon looks determined, and Seismitoad cries out) | |
Rosa | Aw... No way! |
Lillie | <player>'s attacks weren't dealing much damage... |
- Critical Hits: Part 2
Name | Text |
---|---|
Leon | I see! I know exactly what I can teach you, then! I'll explain how to use critical hits! |
Lillie | What're those? |
Leon | When you land a critical hit, it increases the amount of damage you deal to your opponent. But that's not all! Even if your opponent tries to raise their Defense or Sp. Def, it won't affect your critical-hit damage! Critical hits also ignore other field effects that reduce physical or special damage! In other words, you can use a critical hit to deal significant damage despite almost anything your opponent does to strengthen their defenses! |
Lillie | But how do we even land a critical hit to begin with? |
Leon | Essentially, what you can do is use a Trainer move that raises your critical-hit rate! You can only raise your critical-hit rate by up to three ranks, but that should be plenty! If you're able to do that, most of your attacks will be critical hits! Why don't you take this? It's a Trainer move that can raise your critical-hit rate! |
<player> learned Dire Hit +! | |
Leon | In this next battle, try focusing on landing critical hits! |
- Critical Hits: Part 3
Name | Text |
---|---|
Leon | Yes, those were some excellent attacks! Use this in Hard mode in the Champion Stadium, and your attacks will really pack a punch! Er...but don't forget—your opponents can also use critical hits against you, too! If your opponent tries to land critical hits on you, you can try recovering HP before they come at you with a big attack! |
Rosa | I see... So we need to keep an eye on our opponent's critical-hit rate, too! |
Lillie | Thank you, Leon! |
- Passive Skills: Part 1
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Deeper in the cave; Cynthia notices the player's group and waves) | |
Cynthia | Oh! Hi there! Are you here for training, too? |
Rosa | We sure are! We're learning a lot from all the experienced Trainers here! |
Cynthia | I can tell just by the looks on your faces that you've learned quite a bit. How's your knowledge of passive skills? |
Lillie | Um... I'm not so confident when it comes to those. |
Cynthia | Passive skills are skills that automatically activate when certain conditions are met during battle. They have all sorts of effects! It's probably easiest to understand the passive skills that activate when you either attack or are attacked by an opponent. |
Lillie | Now that I think about it... Sometimes in battle, I see Pokémon undergoing all sorts of changes that aren't always moves or field effects! |
Cynthia | You might say that passive skills are the biggest traits a sync pair can possess. Optimize your team with strategies that use passive skills to your advantage! OK, that should be enough of a lecture for now. Let's have a battle and put these passive skills to the test! |
- Passive Skills: Part 2
Name | Text |
---|---|
Cynthia | Great! You pulled that off very well. There are passive skills that you may already know as a sync pair... But you can also learn extra passive skills from lucky skills! Here. I have an item you can use to learn a lucky skill. |
Lillie | Thanks! |
Rosa | Oh, I know about these! When you break open these lucky cookies, you'll find a random skill inside that you can learn! |
Cynthia | Best of luck. I know you can do it! |
- The Ultimate Graduation Test: Part 1
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Back on the mountain path; Red, Blue, and Leaf, wearing their sygna suits, notice the player) | |
Blue | Yo! You finally made it! |
Rosa | Blue?! |
Lillie | Red and Leaf are here, too! But why? |
Blue | Heh. We're gonna see how much you've learned here on Victory Road! Think of it as a graduation test of sorts! On top of facing challengers, I gotta make sure the younger Trainers are getting better, too. Man, it sure is a lot of work, being a genius like me! |
Leaf | Oh, is that so? Red and I were totally fine coming here by ourselves, but I seem to recall someone just BEGGING us to let him in on this, no? |
(Red nods) | |
Blue | A-anyway! Why don't you show us what you've learned! Give us all you've got! I'm sure you're already aware, but we're not gonna go easy on ya! |
(Blue sends out Blastoise, Leaf sends out Venusaur, and Red sends out Charizard) |
- The Ultimate Graduation Test: Part 2
Name | Text |
---|---|
Blue | ...Heh. |
(Red, Blue, and Leaf smile) | |
Blue | Well done! You pass with flying colors! |
Rosa | We did it, <player>! |
Blue | I'm sure you'll do just fine in Hard mode! |
Leaf | We'll help you out, too, as a little present for completing this training! |
Blue | Who you choose is up to you! |
(Red nods) | |
Lillie | Really? That's amazing! |
(Red and the others notice something) | |
Blue | Whoa. Looks like we've got ourselves quite the celebration party! |
- You Did It!
Name | Text |
---|---|
(The eight people who helped the player's group train emerge from the cave and stand in a circle) | |
Lance | Congratulations! There's no need for words now. I have nothing left to teach you. All that's left is to battle to determine who is the strongest of all! |
Wallace | That was superb work, how you took in everything we taught you! We ourselves also learned many things from all of you. The Champion Stadium is where your achievements are put to the test against what others like you have achieved. |
Steven | Has training here awoken something inside you? I want you to come at me with all that you've learned. My Pokémon and I will respond in turn with all that we know! |
Cynthia | Together, you and your Pokémon overcame all the challenges you faced, however difficult. The power you learned... I can feel it from you. As Sinnoh's Pokémon League Champion, I await your challenge! |
Iris | Know what? I really look forward to having serious battles at the Champion Stadium! I mean, come on! The Trainers who make it there are Trainers who desire victory with every fiber of their being! If I battle with people like that, we'll only get stronger, and we'll get to know each other even better, too! |
N | I'm sure your training here has allowed you to understand your Pokémon and teammates on a deeper level. I hope we've provided you with a beautiful formula that will lead you to victory. |
Diantha | Battling against you and your team, all of you brimming with hope for the future... Honestly, it just fills me up with the energy I need to keep facing each new day! It does! |
Leon | Yeah! Champions show their strength by drawing out the strength of their greatest challengers, then crushing them to the dirt! |
(Leon strikes a Charizard pose) | |
Leon | Got it, <player>? We're gonna have an absolutely champion time in Hard mode! |
- Sync Grids Are the Key
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Dusk; the player, Lillie, and Rosa chat with Red, Blue, and Leaf; Lillie, Rosa, Red, and Leaf leave, but Blue stops the player from leaving) | |
Blue | Congrats again, <player>. Actually, there's something I wanted to tell you. In order to beat the Champion Stadium in Hard mode, there are other things you can try out aside from what we taught you today. For example, you can check out your sync grid skills! Unlocking skills on your sync grid can open up all sorts of different battle strategies for you to try! When you get the chance to expand your sync grid, it's a good idea to check what kinds of skills are on there! You'll need items called sync orbs to unlock those skills. Here, I'll give you some of mine. Keep up the good work, rookie champ! Smell ya later! |
Trivia
- All the Trainers battled on Victory Road have served as the player's final Pokémon League opponent in a core series game except Red and Leaf.
- The dialogue in You Did It! paraphrases each character's dialogue before battling the player for the first time in the core series games in which they are Champion except for Diantha, who instead paraphrases her dialogue before having a rematch with the player.
- N, who never officially accepts the Champion title, does not paraphrase any dialogue from the core series games.
