This is delivered to local authorities, building owners and other key stakeholders. Preparing rigorous applications for the listing of currently un-listed buildings is also a key activity. The Head of Casework will draw on this on-going workload to help develop our wider campaigns and broaden our development of new and emerging areas of heritage protection.
Requirements: The role requires a broad knowledge of British architecture after 1914 and an enthusiasm for its protection. The ability to comprehend architectural drawings is vital, as is an understanding of the listed building consent process and related areas of planning legislation and policy. Workplace experience of a role requiring deployment of these skills must be demonstrated. Knowledge of retrofit techniques and of the decorative arts and crafts will be a bonus. A post-graduate qualification in historic building conservation or a related subject would be beneficial, but is not essential.
Ability to work under pressure as part of a team and to be adaptable in the context of a small office is crucial. The person appointed will need to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision to a high standard. Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as the person appointed will contribute to the Society’s social media output and magazine as well as handling press enquires and interviews.
