Essential Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Book A Hair & Makeup Artist

Here’s the thing: I have heard numerous horror stories from past brides that have used me for a non-wedding event or it’s their second marriage, and when I ask them if they have ever had their makeup professionally done, they tell me they either hated it or they could describe in detail why they didn’t end up booking an artist (after a trial gone wrong). And it doesn’t stop there. It’s also very easy to be taken advantage of as a bride. I’m sure you can google a quick search about brides and their beauty nightmares and find stories of sneaky artists. I know I’ve seen them!

This is NOT OKAY. This saddens me to my core. I believe hair & makeup should be the least of your worries on your wedding day!

So in order to help you avoid a terrible situation like those unfortunate beauties, I have created some guidelines and questions for you to ask YOURSELF about a potential hair and makeup artist.

Questions you should be asking yourself when you are researching a hair and makeup artist for your wedding:

1). Is it clear on what they offer in terms of style?

2). Do they offer the style, products and/or services I am looking for?

3). Are they letting me know how and when my date is secure?

4). Is there a separate fee to do a bridal trial, or is it included in the wedding day package? Can I do the trial anytime? Can I use the trial for one of my bridal events?

5). Do they require a minimum of services to book?

Questions you should be asking yourself when you are having a bridal trial with a hair and makeup artist:

1). Are they listening to my wants and needs?

2). Are they treating me and my face/hair with respect?

3). How long do I have to decide, after my trial, to book my date?

4). Are they cleanly and organized with their kit? Do their brushes smell nice? Are they taking sanitary precautions?

5). Am I enjoying our conversation? Does their scent bother me?

Questions you should be asking yourself when you are booking a hair and makeup artist for your wedding:

1). Have they been clear about the charges that will occur when I book them? Are there taxes or fees involved when I submit payments?

2). Are they having me sign a contract and put down a retainer?

3). What services outside of the hair and makeup are they offering or doing for me?

4). In the event, I have a service that needs to cancel, what is their policy for services cancelled? (Especially with COVID-19 going around).

5). Have they contradicted anything they’ve said since the beginning of our communication? Do I trust them?

Welcome!

Welcome to the blog, beauty.

This is the official spot to get familiar with me, Chelsea, owner of Chelsea Rose Beauty. It’s a company, but also half of me and my identity.

I’ve served as a makeup artist for nearly a decade. I’ve transformed more faces than I can think of and curled so many hairs, I can tell you how your hair will hold a curl before I even touch it. If hair & makeup wasn’t a gift bestowed upon me, well by now it is a skill set. I can’t unlearn it and I don’t want to! I love having the power to beautify brides and bridesmaids (my main niche) and the special opportunity my brideys give me when I am apart of their special occasion!! You can learn more about me on my website chelsearosebeauty.com

As for this blog, you can expect to learn from me about why I use airbrush makeup, how to feel your best for your wedding day, and much more you should know as a bride! –And hey, even if you are not a bride, you may be able to learn a thing or two about the world of beauty.

Cheers!
