We’re back with our third V/A to round out the year, and couldn’t be more excited to showcase this four-track excursion into the post-apocalyptic clubscape of our fantasies ⋆ ˚ ꩜ 。 ⋆(•̀ᴗ•́ )و
‘When the Dust Settles’ sets the tone of the release, a simmering halftime roller that is the collaboration of longtime friends Prawns (bread.fm) and co-label head Pteron. Thunderous, ritualistic percussion intensifies over a gritty reese-like bass amid washes of dissonant textures. A rush of blood to the head.
Next in queue is ‘Bounce’, a searing percussive burner by Shai FM that captures the core elements of his shapeshifting, globally-oriented sonic palette. Tension rises and falls in slow motion; punchy kicks cut through stuttering vocals that flirt with percussive rolls and tonal elements in the perfect polyrhythmic workout.
With ‘Proxy Game 3.0’, a portal opens. Fallen Matter invites us into their fractured matrix of turbo-charged hybrid club experiments. Electrical disturbances, abrasive rhythms, and formant-shifting vocals flood the soundscape with an unbound kineticism. Razor sharp sound design for cyborg femdom.
The final chapter is ‘Soma Ghosts’, a hard-hitting bassbin rattler from Bay Area stalwart Only Now (Bokeh Versions, Polaar) X Pteron that was shaped over the last year. The two have suffused their deconstructed club predilections with drill elements at higher tempos than the genre has experienced. Moments of urgency, climax, and levity are explored with a circumscribed recklessness.
