Green Holiday procession, Bielany district, Warsaw, Poland

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On the occasion of Pentecost (in Poland also called as Green Holiday) there is a parish festival that has been organized for 350 years. The event begins with a solemn procession with imagery of saints. The procession walks towards the Vistula river, accompanied by a brass band. They stop on the bank of the Vistula River where a painting with the image of Bruno of Querfurt arrives on a boat decorated with greenery. After the painting is passed to the procession priests say solemn mass, then the festival with music, food, and attractions begins.
Polski: Procesja z okazji Zielonych Świątek. Na Bielanach uroczystości zaczynają się późnym rankiem. Spod kościoła w Lesie Bielańskim ulicą Dewajtis rusza w stronę Wisły procesja z wizerunkami polskich męczenników. Do brzegu Wisły po stronie Bielan przypływa tratwa z warszawskiej Archikatedry św. Jana Chrzciciela z obrazem św. Brunona z Kwerfurtu.
