English: An excerpt from Ernst Kaltenbrunner's closing statement at the Nuremberg Trials. More of this excerpt can be found here: [2]
"I stand here accused because a substitute was needed for the absent Himmler, and other elements which are abhorrent to me. Regardless of whether my opinions and representations will now be accepted or rejected by this court, I ask you not to let your just condemnation of Himmler influence the fate and honour of hundreds of thousands of fallen and living men of the Allgemeine SS, the Waffen-SS and the civil service, who courageously and ideally defended their Reich to the last moment. They thought, as did I, to have acted according to the law." |
