Template:Coleoptera
For all Coleoptera superfamilies, families, subfamilies, tribes, subtribes, genera, and species.
Use only for categories, not for pages or files!
- Usage:
{{Coleoptera
|familia=
|subfamilia=
|tribus=
|subtribus=
|genus=
|species= <!-- see below -->
|auth=
}}
- In categories, do not add any taxonomic category since this template auto-categorizes. (In galleries, the categories are needed)
- The
suborder andsuperfamily will be filled in automatically. - If needed, the genus category can be disambiguated by
genus-disambig
. Fill in thegenus
field as you normally would (to form the correct species link), then setgenus-disambig
equal to the disambiguation part of the name (including the parentheses). - Does not manage superfamilia=, supertribus=
Automatic superfamily categorization
[edit]This template currently fills in the superfamily for you based on the family given. It bypasses monotypic superfamilies, placing those groups directly in Category:Coleoptera. Incertae sedis and anything it doesn't recognize (which probably means an outdated/invalid name) will also be placed directly in Category:Coleoptera. This feature may be turned off in the future (as the suborder rank was), but it won't affect usage.
Species parameter
[edit]There are two ways to fill in the species field. It can be either the full species name or just the second part of the name. These have different effects. If the genus parameter is used (meaning you want to categorize the species in the genus category), only the second part is needed. If the genus parameter left out, the full species name must be used. The reasons for doing it this way is it allows you to skip over some intermediate categories (like monotypic genera) and categorize directly into the next highest rank you used in the template to make browsing easier. The reason for only using the second part of the name when the genus is present is to generate the correct sortkey.
