Permission
[edit]None of the above images have any actual evidence of permission, just your statement, so please get the copyright holders to email their permission by following the procedure found at COM:OTRS. They are all obviously copyright images so if they are being released under a free licence we need to have that confirmed. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 22:35, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- All of the above images have been reviewed by an OTRS member and stored in the permission archive.(Australianblackbelt (talk) 03:27, 25 December 2016 (UTC))

Thanks for uploading File:Mrs globe belarus.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

Copyright status: File:Ip Chun with Felix Leong.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Ip Chun with Felix Leong.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

"Own work" photos
[edit]Hi Australianblackbelt. You've recently uploaded a bunch of photos to Commons under a claim that they are your "own work". Just in case you didn't know, it is generally considered under copyright law that the person who takes a photo (not the subject of the photo or a person who possesses the photo) is the copyright holder; so, for Commons purposes, it is the COM:CONSENT of the copyright holder who is needed. Most of the photos you uploaded have very minimal COM:EXIF data, and that data indicates the photos might be scans. The EXIF data from one of the photos (File:Maurice Novoa at tournament.jpg) even indicates that it comes from some Facebook page. The photos were all taken at different times and venues and are of varying quality. So, if you did take all of these photos and still have the original versions of them with their original EXIF data, then it might be a good idea for you to upload the original versions of the photos. You can do this by simply clicking the "Upload a new version of this file" in the "File History" section of each file's page. There's no limitation of quality and size when it comes to Commons images; so, the higher quality version you can upload the better. Now, if you took these photos and them uploaded somewhere online only to download them again so that you could upload them to Commons, then that's OK. However, you probably should follow the instructions given in COM:OTRS#Licensing images: when do I contact OTRS? so that their licensing can be verified. FWIW, you should do this in such cases even if you still have the original EXIF data for the photos.
If, by chance, you didn't take these photos but received some kind of verbal or written permission from the persons who did to upload them for use on Wikipedia, then that's OK too. In that case, you should follow the instructions given in COM:OTRS#If you are NOT the copyright holder and ask the copyright holder to email their consent to Wikimedia OTRS.
Finally, if you're planning on uploading more photos like these, you might want to consider emailing OTRS to let them know; that way OTRS volunteers will know to look for your uploads and know that they are your work. Of course, this only works when what you upload is truly your own work, but it will save you the trouble of having to send separate emails to OTRS each time you upload a new photo and will also make it clear to anyone looking at the files that they are your "own work". -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:15, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, I understand the OTRS process I have uploaded many photos released by other authors, the ones that state own work are mine but sometimes it's just easier accessing them from facebook when I am travelling. Australianblackbelt (talk) 06:23, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- You can add a license to the photos you've previously uploaded to Facebook and then provide a link in the file's description. That will show you're the copyright holder. You could also just send email to OTRS saying that everything from you personal website or social media accounts are released under the licenses you've chosen. The first way will kind of let others figure out your secret identity or last least your Facebook page, whereas the second way will only make such information known to OTRS. OTRS volunteers have to sign a non-disclosure agreement; so, they even though they will add a {{Permission OTRS}} to the files' pages, they won't post anything else and won't discuss the specifics with anyone but you and other OTRS volunteers. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:31, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- Ok I will do the second, I know what the emails is for OTRS to release photos but I'm not sure of the email to send in order to keep me anonymous to public and do I need to state each file name? Australianblackbelt (talk) 08:56, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- If you include the file names or the file URLs in your email an OTRS volunteer should be able figure things out. You should use an official email address if possible since that sometimes help with the verification process. Whatever you email OTRS will stay within OTRS. If the licenses are verified all anyone else who’s not an OTRS volunteer will know is that the file has been OTRS verified and the OTRS ticket number assigned to the email. No personal information will be posted on Commons or Wikipedia unless you do so yourself. If you have more specific questions, try COM:OTRSN since that where OTRS stuff is often discussed. — Marchjuly (talk) 10:41, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Hi, I've done what you suggested it's fine but can you please look into these two photos, the first one I took of Eric oram specifically for his Wikipedia page info box and I've NEVER shared it with anyone before the upload to commons=> Eric Oram.jpg The other is a photo I took of Oram and Robert Downey Jr, I tried to upload it=> Oram with Downey Jr and Cheung 2005.jpg way back in 2016 when Orams page was created but it was deleted within minutes, now the images seem to be in dispute, is it because they are famous? cause the same thing is happening with William Cheung=> Rahsun Herkul William Cheung Brian Laroda.jpg Cheers, Australianblackbelt (talk) 09:06, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- I'm neither an OTRS volunteer, a Commons file license reviewer nor a Commons administrator. but the three files you mentioned above (File:Eric Oram.jpg, File:Oram with Downey Jr and Cheung 2005.jpg and File:Rahsun Herkul William Cheung Brian Laroda.jpg) have all been tagged with {{OTRS pending}}. This means that someone sent a permission email to OTRS and that it has been entered into the system and is awaiting review. That's all I can say about them. Once an OTRS volunteer reviews the files, they will add either {{OTRS permission}} if the files check out or {{OTRS received}} if they don't. In the latter case, an OTRS volunteer will most likely contact the person who sent in the email, explain what the problem is and explain what needs to be done to fix it. Files tagged with "OTRS pending" are given a grace period of 30 days to sort things out. After 30 days they can be deleted if their licensing is still not verified. Being tagged with "OTRS pending" doesn't mean a file's licensing is being challenge, but rather that it's being verified. If you sent the emails in, you should here from OTRS if there are any problems. If you are still concerned, you can always ask for help at COM:OTRSN.I also can't say why someone might have challenge a photos licensing because people challenge things for different reasons. Try and understand that people are always uploading stuff to Commons under claims of "own work" that's not really their own work or under some other license that Commons doesn't accept. Most of these people mean no harm and they just don't understand COM:L; it's an honest mistake that's made all the time. Most Commons editors reviewing files are looking for things that can be clearly verified; so, they're looking for links to websites, etc, which clearly show the photo has been released as licensed. When no such links are provided on the file's page, they look for other things like doing a reverse image search, etc. as explained in Commons:License review. They also look for any COM:EXIF data to see if that contains a license. Regardless of who challenges a file's licensing or why they challenge it, there's always a final review by a Commons administrator before anything's deleted. Moreover, even after something has been deleted, there's still COM:DRV and COM:REFUND if people disagree with or challenge the deletion.FWIW, there are a number of notifications on your user talk page related to files you've uploaded. These notifications generally explain why a file was tagged or nominated for deletion. A file you uploaded named File:Robert Downey Jr with Master Eric Oram.jpg was deleted back in 2016 because its licensing couldn't be verified. If you want to know more about that, click on the file's red link and ask the administrator who deleted it, and perhaps they remember. When a file is deleted, it's not really gone forever; it's only hidden from public view. Commons administrators can see deleted files; so, perhaps the administrator who deleted this file will take another look at it and see if it's issues have now been resolved. Finally, the part of your post where you state the first one I took of Eric oram specifically for his Wikipedia page info box indicates two things you might be misunderstanding about Commons. The first thing is that Commons is mainly just concerned with the licensing of the files it hosts and not so much with how they're being used on any other Wikimedia Foundation projects like the various Wikipedias. Lots of people upload files to Commons thinking that automatically means the files are going to be used on some Wikipedia page. Most of the time that is the case because the Wikipedias prefer freely licensed content and a good picture can really enhance an article. However, whether a files is ultimately used in a Wikipedia article may depend on whether there's a consensus to do so. If the consensus is against using a certain image, then it won't be used regardless of how it's licensed. I'm not sure if that's the case with these photos, but files are sometimes removed from articles for contextual reasons that have nothing to do with their copyright status. The other thing is that once you upload something to Commons under a free license, you can't place any restrictions on how it's used by others except for those specified in the license you choose. So, you might upload a file because you want to use it in a Wikipedia article, but you can't stop others from downloading and using it in other ways or on other websites as long as they abide by the terms of the license.Someone could take the photo of Oram you uploaded and put it on T-shirts, coffee mugs, dating websites, etc. or use it in other waya that either you or Oram might not approve, and there's not much you can do to stop them from a copyright standpoint as long as they abide by the terms of the "cc-by-sa-4.0" license. You might be able to try and stop them for other reasons, but those don't really have to do with copyright per se. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:13, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Thank you for all that knowledge, I seem to be facing a problem with an OTRS volunteer stating that if an image has no EXTIF data it can't be approved yet I have uploeaded dozens of photo with little or no meta data.... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Felix_Leong_and_Maurice_Novoa.jpg#%7B%7Bint%3Afiledesc%7D%7D Australianblackbelt (talk) 15:04, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I can't help you with that since I'm not an OTRS volunteer and OTRS volunteers can't really discuss such things with anyone but the people who email them and other OTRS volunteers. Even if I posted a comment in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Felix Leong and Maurice Novoa.jpg saying the file should be kept it would be pretty much have no weight since I can't assess a file the same way that an OTRS volunteer can. What you might try and do is post something about this at COM:OTRSN. Politely explain your side and then see if another OTRS volunteer might be able to figure out a way to resolve things. As long as you provide the OTRS ticket number, other OTRS volunteers should be able to see who reviewde the file (and the email that was sent in) and will also see that it's being currently discussed for deletion. Maybe there's a way to work around the EXIF data issue, but I'm not sure. Generally Commons tends to follow COM:PCP and delete files whenever there's a significant doubt about their copyright ownership. It might not always be the right thing to do, but Commons does seem to err on the side of caution. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:06, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

- It is is easier for news papers to publish photos when they are in wikicommons, that's the whole point of uploading the photos to commons and having the photographer sent an OTRS. most of the photos uploaded have ended up in news papers and will continue to do so specially when the person pictured is notable. File:Terry Lim Yoko Geri.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Copyright violations
[edit]
Hello Australianblackbelt.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

[edit]Copyright status: File:Terry Lim Award.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Terry Lim Award.jpg.
Thank you. |

File tagging File:Felix Leong and Nick Legg.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Felix Leong and Nick Legg.jpg.
The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Felix Leong and Nick Legg.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
