Hello, Bluemask!

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hi! Thanks for the much needed help. I appreciate it a lot. I just need a lot of guidance re: technicalities and stuff. On the matter of the JS Alano photo... this photograph has been in the possession of my family ever since I can remember (the picture is of my Great Grandfather - J. S. Alano - who died in 1966). I scanned the picture from a family album and posted the same on wikimedia commons. We have no idea who took the photograph which was taken around the 1950s. Thanks again! - jjarivera

Did you edited the photo? The meta data is missing. Can you upload the original high resolution version? If you do, nobody will doubt the copyright of the image. --Bluemask (talk) 04:15, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi once more! Re: The Great Seal of JCI Basilan... how is this a copyright violation? I am the current Secretary General and also a Past President (2004) of the organization (JCI Basilan Inc.) that owns it, and we are releasing the image into the public domain for general reference and use. The use of the JCI logo embellished with localized features has been previously approved by Junior Chamber International and Junior Chamber International Philippines as well. Thanks! - jjarivera

It is a copyright violation because the copyright holder is the organization, JCI Basilan Inc. As such, the organization will be the one who must release the image to public domain not just a member of the organization. Since the copyright is not yours to begin with, tagging the image with {{PD-self}} is not allowed. --Bluemask (talk) 04:20, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
