Hi - I added a comment to your question about copyright and GFDL that you posted at User_talk:Kaihsu#Copyright. I hope I was able to explaim this a bit. -- Duesentrieb 01:23, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Neutrality

[edit]

Hello, I've seen your message regarding Neutrality. The fact that I'm a bureaucrat on this project does not imply I'm in a situation of disciplining admins. This is definitely not *my* job, this burden is for the whole community. Besides, I haven't exactly understood what made you angry. You'll have to give some links for me to get what happened :) villy 11:33, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism of an IP

[edit]

Hi I saw that you have reverted a vandal edit on Image:763px-21c3-wp-024.jpg. I saw your last comment and I know why this IP did that vandalism: This is a picture that shows me. I'm the guy in blue-red pullover at the computer. Behind the Vandal-IP is the User Wikibär that also is here in the Commons as User:Mr.Do! and several other sock puppets. Wikibär hates me and he wants tu hurt me (He makes trouble in de.wikipedia for months with Copyvios and now we drew the final line and I started there a voting blocking him, wich will be over this night and that looks pretty good at the moment). His last action was (as another IP) this night to vandal all my images I uploaded here (changing my GFDL/CC-BY-SA into Fair Use) and putting them onto speedy deletion. Luckily none of the images was deleted accidentially and it is now everything rolled back... So we definitly need to keep an eye on him as this won't be the last action of him and strangely he sees me as his main enimy and will probably attack me again. Direct Media images

[edit]

Hey, I saw you removed some of the information from the Direct Media images... I do agree that some of it is overkill (like the creator box on each images), however, I think some of the information... like where it is stored, its dates, etc are all useful... I reverted Image:Hieronymus Bosch 023.jpg then realized I shouldn't do anymore because we should solve since revert wars are no good. Most of these pictures will not have EN wikipedia pages, let alone AR, or RO, or any of the other numerous languages so this may be the only way that people who see the artist page and its link to the commons can get their descriptive information. There should be no image analysis on the commons but its locations, dates, do have a place here I believe.... actually as I am writing this I changed that image... I think the format of:

  • Pertinent information
  • Copyright tag
  • {{Painter template
  • categories

is a reasonable way to deal with this... and we can get rid of the creator template because that is overkill on each image. However, I strongly suggest reaching a concensus on the direct media talk page before we change these since this is a project Eloquence and many others have been working on... fair enough? gren 21:54, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I agree with you about revert wars. Thanks for being so considerate!
In this particular case, there is Category:The Garden of Earthly Delights, which is where I feel any information about the painting should be consolidated. For English speakers, a link from the category to w:The Garden of Earthly Delights should suffice, though I agree that other solutions for other languages is appropriate.
Perhaps a note on the image description page, "See Category:The Garden of Earthly Delights for more information." would make that clearer?
I don't think I have the stamina to work on the other Direct Media images; I agree that it's something that should be discussed before making sweeping changes. Dbenbenn 22:03, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

India

[edit]

Why did you redirect the India page to Bharat? Its not a suitable title. India BTW is also the official name of the country and its best you left it in the English form for the sake of consistency, else we would have a problem categorising images etc. Nichalp 10:27, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'm not sure of the exact policy on the name as far as India goes. The Indian constitution recognises both India and Bharat (what you redirected to) as the official name; so both names are correct. Yes, I'm an admin, promoted just yesterday out here, and been one for eight months in en:. I hope you won't have any problems if I revert it for the sake of consistency. Regards, Nichalp 17:49, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've thought about it further and decided to seek the community opinion. Its over here Commons talk:Language policy. For now I won't revert. Nichalp 05:04, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Saddam Birthday Palace.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. categories

[edit]

Im not sure, since sometimes images are updated over, but other times they are left and a new image is uploaded.. Maybe a note could be left that the image should not be updated, instead update by uploading a new file - and then they could be categorised by year? Astrokey44 08:49, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Negative, Though alphabet is a modified form of Arabic with addition of 4 letters and a much different writing style, but still the core language hasn't been altered and pretty much is same as its predecessor Pahlavi language. You can not include Persian poetries in such categories unless it's an Arabic text i.e, Quran verses or something like it. Amir85 13:11, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have one question: How is it possible to transfer free licensed images from Wikipedia to Commons without re-uploading the image ? Best wishes. Amir85 15:22, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.

Since you are trusted, why didn't you type in a flickr pass for this image:

I have said to close the DR...but you should type in a flickr pass to make sure the problem doesn't happen again. Trusted user Ranveig and Admins like Sanstein can do this. This is 1 image Ranveig typed in a flickrpass on after I told him to: [1]

If you don't, someone else may target it for deletion next. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:28, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for typing in the flickrpass Grevanitar for the image. I have formally withdrawn my nomination here I apologise for not knowing you were a trusted user like Ranveig. With kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:47, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's OK. I too have high resolution images here of native/European art works and scenery but it is only about 50% of my images on Commons. There are too many to keep track off. With kind Regards from Metro Vancouver, Canada, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:52, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:BoschSelfportret.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File:Saracens Head pub sign.jpg

[edit]

Hi, Gren! I just noticed that the decription for is wrong. Perhaps you were doing a few images that day and copied and pasted the wrong info. It says it is the Central Mosque in London - but it's tagged as being in Bath and is obviously a pub sign. Best wishes Francis Hannaway (talk) 17:15, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Francis, yeah, I pasted the wrong information when I uploaded it that's why that edit summary is incorrect.. But I think I corrected everything with this edit a while ago. Is there something else I missed? gren (talk) 23:18, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible, we might dialog, so that I might be assisted...
